    DD responds to sheepdog whistles and hand signals. Yeah, I'm serious. Short whistle and short motion upwards, like pulling up a zipper, and she sits down where she is.

    Apparently I'm not the only one, at dog trials I've seen lots of kids whistled 'to heel', 'sit', 'stay', 'leave it' {don't touch}. The simple fact is it is easier to teach a familiar way to call them back to us instead of yelling names or just screaming "Get back here!"

    When people find out they laugh amd say how freakish it is, but I haven't had it fail yet. She'll come when called by her name but she comes back far quicker when whistled for.
