    Default What would you serve?

I am having DS 1st birthday soon and need some food ideas or thoughts please. We are having a late afternoon/early evening party as to avoid the worst of the heat. I am serving for everyone; sausages, buns and salad. We will also offering (and I have asked all the parents if they are okay with it and they are)

    Homemade sausage rolls
    Homemade pizza slices
    Chicken nuggets

    Fruit Kebabs

    Cupcakes
    Fairy bread.

Can you think of anything else I can offer or do you think this is enough? Im trying to avoid to much sugar as people will be taking their children home to bed around 7ish and I was worried about too much sugar.

    Thanks for your input!

Fruit salad but use cookie cutters to make shapes and a melon baller!
I did this for my nieces (that didn't like fruit) and now they love it!!!!

All I would add is an assortment of sandwiches, cut into triangles. Egg sandwiches seem popular.

For DS's 1st b'day, I did homemade dips (guacamole/hommus/tzatziki) with pita bread & carrot/celery sticks for dipping, cob loaf dip, cheerios (these were gone instantly, & it was pretty much just adults at the party...secret guilty pleasure obviously lol), sandwiches, homemade sausage rolls, cupcakes and fruit kebabs. I also made up a few jugs of fruit punch.

Thanks everyone. I was thinking of doing a cob loaf and fruit punch so thanks Witwicky, I will add those to the list.

Sounds perfect to me, especially with the cob loaf and punch.

What's your recipe for your cob loaf dip Witwicky? I remember having a spinach one at a party once and it was divine!

I'm also after ideas. So far we're having...
    - mini quiches
    - home made pizzas
    - different sandwiches
    - fruit salad
    - samosas

Sorry cant get my comp to work tonight, but I make something similar as a "filler", it is pretty good finger food and you can use the inside of the rock melon on top.

The kids love these and so do the adults I make sweet and savoury ones and serve with rice crackers and jats
