I mean, this is an internet forum, and you're getting huffy over strangers calling you a bogan...
If you're friend called you one, then yeah get upset.. But a stranger?!?
I find it offensive because the term Bogan implies an individual who is recognised to be from a lower class background or someone whose limited education, speech, clothing, attitude and behaviour exemplifies such a background. So yes, I do get offended because I am none of the above!

ITs been done....many times. Frangipani stickers are the clear winners apparently...with downlights as the most odd addition to the list

I think we are bogans. We have just moved to Logan , drive a commodore , dp is a tradie, we aren't real classy, I live in thongs haha!!
I wouldn't care tbh . There are bigger things to worry about. People care you much what other people think and say .

I don't find it offensive to describe things as bogan, but it probably is a little offensive to describe a person as bogan. To me bogan means rough/ tasteless/ coarse, so it's not really a compliment.

I'm sure that there are things that I like/ do that other people would think were bogan, but I would be pretty offended if anyone called ME bogan.

I do use it to describe people, but I don't think there is anything wrong with that as sometimes you do need to describe someone/ something in a way that isn't flattering! If I say "I don't like him because he is such a bogan" then that isn't any more offensive (to me) than if I were to say "I don't like him because he is so crude and rough around the edges." To me they are saying the same things.

I don't think it is the same as race/ gender, etc. "Bogan" was never a word for a particular race that then evolved to describe only negative associations with that race. To my understanding (and please correct me if I am wrong), 'bogan' is a word used to describe a certain roughness in someone.

Sure, it's not nice if people think you're rough, but that doesn't make the word any worse than 'rough'.

I will add that I am English, so I may have got the wrong end of the stick with the way it's used, but that certainly seems to be how it's used by all the Aussies I know.

The title of the thread is "Do you find the term "bogan" offensive". I answered honestly. I'm as entitled to reply as everyone who doesn't get offended, am I not?

Lol I'm afraid to mention what I think is "bogan" for fear of offending others.

I would be incredibly offended if someone called me a bogan.
