    Default Metformin and Ttc

I have suffered with PCOS since I was 15 and was prescribed 1000 mg of Metformin to conceive my first son! Now I'm on the first month of trying again and on CD 19 have a positive smiley face on digital opk, when I tested 2-3 hours later it was negative!!! When I ejected the stick from the positive stick there was not really even a second line..... Could it have been a false positive???

I have heard that sometimes women with PCOS can get false positives. Do you chart at all?

I have pcos and for me they came up positive all the time. Not sure why. I was told by my doctor that they are very unreliable for pcos.

Some people with PCOS have high levels of LH (lutenising hormone) and amongst other issues this is one of the reasons they don't ovulate. The majority of the OPK test for LH so some women will get false positives (well, the hormone is actually high but it always is, rather than being a 'surge' from a low baseline), so not accurate for testing for ovulation. Not all women have this high LH though - I have mild PCOS and used metformin to conceive my DS but my hormome levels are normal.
