Eller-or, How it's spelled. My mother pronounces all other spelling Ellen-a.

    I don't think it's the hyphen that's bogan, it's hyphonating a single name - like Ky-lee or Mel-lynda.
But I could be wrong. Bogan is just an opinion, not a fact.

OP, I think you are right to fight for the other spelling. It's a lovely family tradition!
I'm really surprised that BD&M made that kind of mistake and that they have made it so hard to rectify it now. Surely they have to put down EXACTLY what you put on the form?

Yes there are loads of what might be considered bogan American type names that are actually old traditional American hyphenated names - all the names ending in -Mae, -Lou, -Kate, -Lee, -Kay, for example

Exactly. Also does it really matter if someone thinks your name is "bogan"?

You would think so... I had to get DS birth certificate changed because they spelt my name wrong... Both first and middle Jenn.iffer & Aless.andra - apparently I don't know how to spell my name... It's like with anything I need to put my details down on... 9/10 they always stuff up...

I think be damned with popular thinking and choose what YOU want.

Just an aside. As a guy, I'm guessing I am the only one who thinks of Eleanor and thinks of the Shelby Mustang GT 500 from Gone in 60 Seconds???

    Anyone? No?

    *sighs* Women!

I believe the accepted spellings of this name are:

    Eleanor
    Ellenor
    Elinor

I prefer Eleanor, but don't think the others are bogan

My great grandmother's older sister was Ellenor Ivy (born in 1906 in England!) so it's definitely been around for longer than the term 'bogan' has been!

ETA: My name is Kimber.leigh and everyone thinks that is a bogan spelling. Meh. Am I bothered? Same with DP, she is M-a-j-a pronounced My-ah and everyone thinks it's a made up spelling, but it's the Scandinavian spelling and phonetically is no different to Maya or Mya!

You're not the only one who thinks of the 'stang haha. A lovely name and no one can have an issue with being named after such a beautiful car
