Default Mother Baby Unit - Mitcham Private Hospital

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has stayed in the Mother Baby Unit at Mitcham Private Hospital for the 4-day Residential program and if your experience was positive. I'm on a waiting list to go in with my 12 week old. My issues include Post Natal Depression, and his include reflux, cows milk intolerance and sleeping/settling problems. I would appreciated any feedback on your experience and what actually happened when you stayed there. Thanks.

My SIL went there, but it was a while ago. She waited a lot longer than you and I think my nephew was many months old, not just 12 weeks old. From memory he might have been 7 or 8 months old and had been difficult from day 1. The good news is that it made a huge difference for her. It was a complete turn around for her and for my nephew. Best thing she ever did.

I did discuss it with my paed when my ds was little and he said that all bubs that are admitted with their mums need a review by a paed as part of the stay and he often did that. Things were pretty rough with my ds in early days and I considered the mother baby unit, but then things improved and I didn't need it (I had intensive help from the paed & M&CHN though and that was enough). But, I've seen Mother Baby units make a huge difference and I thoroughly recommend them.

I hope things improve for you really soon!

Just an update from my experiences at Mitcham. They are great!

We no longer feed to sleep. DD is feeding every 4 hrs rather than every 1-2. She is self-settling, with varying degrees of success for 3 naps a day and self-settles after every feed overnight.

The nurses there are fantastic. They look at how the babies sleep, try different things, wraps, music etc. All things can be readily duplicated at home.

Yes, there is some grizzling, sometimes crying (minimal) but all wirked within your comfort zone. If anyone is considering sleep school, consider Mitcham Private.
