No, it doesn't stand for non-applicable (as was originally assumed when the parents put it on the registration forms)...it is pronounced....wait for it....

    Na-dash-ah.

    Dead serious.

I came across something similar. I work as a teacher and a colleague told me of a child she taught.

    B-la

    It's apparently pronounced Bdashla

You have to say the dash in order to say the name. Only problem is that no government department recognises a dash as part of a name so the poor child will always be known as Bla for the rest of their life. I mean really..... what were the parents thinking??

Oh and the most inappropriately named child award goes to a Grade 4 student I had the pleasure of meeting a few years ago as an emergency teacher. I had just walked into the classroom when a young girl started screaming and swearing (yes words that even I blushed at) at the other kids around her. I asked her her name and burst out laughing when she told me it was 'Harmony'. I couldn't help it. That's one child that will never live up to the meaning of her name that's for sure!!!

Here in nz unusual names are kinda the norm it seems lol. As I know lots of kids with names as mentioned above plus more I can rattle off: passion, precious, kingh, jay-z, zhanikwa, blossom, princess, wonderful, steely, steiny, rain, messiah, redundancy, renegade, and the list goes on!!!!!

Some names mentioned in earlier posts are cultural names so I wouldn't call them weird at all, as in their culture that's a normal name. But it's the random English ones that I look twice at lol
