    If it's joint funds and you know he is going to get the camera, why not buy the camera? Unless it goes out cheap after Christmas?

    I thought about getting a camera, but I wouldn't know what sort he would want (e.g. a simple point-and-snap, or something more advanced), plus we're a bit short on money (waiting for my pay day next week) so I wouldn't have even been able to afford to.

    Also he might be able to get something a bit cheaper in post-Christmas sales.
