Default Diploma of Community Services via Correspondence?

    Hi all,

I'm really close to enrolling in the Diploma of Community Services through seek.com (OTEN) BUT I'm slightly concerned that I will be isolated studying via correspondence?

Has anyone successfully studied this diploma online/via correspondence? Are there plenty of online forums to discuss?

On campus study isn't an option with both kids being 4 & 5yrs and with me working.... I'm motivated but worried about being able to "bounce" things off people??

There is usually heaps of people willing to help on this forum and you will probably still be enrolled in a college with teachers to call and ask if you have NFI how to do an assignment.

I did it "full time on campus" but when I enrolled all I got was books with assignments to do and a hour time slot to talk to the teacher each week. But the assignments are okay to manage by yourself.

Thanks so much for that. Did you do it through TAFE? I'm struggling a little to get my head around the fact that some training institutions say it will take 12months and others say 2 years (both for full time external).... why so much of a difference?

How did you find the course? I was only going to do CERT IV but have since decided to go ahead with the diploma and do the 2 qualifying subjects first.... ahh too many things to worry about

    Hey Nim

I'm currently doing my diploma so if you need any support with it feel free to PM me. The teaching staff are pretty wonderful also. I've phoned them many times looking for motivation with particular assignments.

I found it was really good. Mine was through tafe. Mine took two years but I had like huge tafe holidays and whatnot.

I ended up doing uni online too and it was way really good, depends on your learning style I think.

Sorry, threadjacking. What's the advantage of the Dip. over the Cert IV in terms of job prospects?

Hi I did the first year at a tafe and now I'm finishing with oten... I haven't been a fan of distance Ed compared to the classroom but you get the same qualification at the end.... As for difference in levels it can alter pay rates and also the ranks of jobs you would be able to do

Thanks everyone for all the input.

Has anyone done the "qualifying" subjects that you can do to enrol in the diploma if you haven't done the Cert IV?

I have been told through OTEN that as I don't have a degree or a Cert IV under my belt then I will enrol in two enabling subjects to start the Dip.

Anyone able to give me any insight as the subject matter??

Also....(I'm on a roll here ) How have you found the workload in terms of studying the diploma?

Again, thanks everyone, it's a big help!
