    Hi

To teach at a preschool you'll need a teaching degree. You can get this a few ways. The first is by studying 4 years at university completing a Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood). You can do this on-campus or through OUA. You could speed it up by doing extra units per semester, but I wouldn't recommend this if you have a family or work full-time. You will also need to be able to commit to practical subjects, where you will do unpaid work experience in a preschool, long daycare and school. The degree will enable you to teach 0-8 year olds. Alternatively, you can complete a Cert 3 in children's services, followed by a diploma, at Tafe and then apply to uni. The length of time will vary depend on how many hours/week you study and also how many units an individual uni will credit you for. Good luck with your decision.

You actually don't have to have an ec degree to be a preschool teacher, if the preschool has under 25 children they only need to have access to an ec for 20% of the time, in many cases the teacher is just a diploma.

It really depends on if you want to be a qualified teacher or an advanced child care worker.

To be a teacher requires a 4 year uni course. To be an advanced child care worker is 2 years at TAFE.
