    Default Tongue tie & BFing

    Hi :-)

After 3 weeks of attachment issues (cracked nipples, mastitis) with DD, she has today been diagnosed as having a "moderate" tongue tie.

The Dr snipped it today, but said it only improves feeding in some cases.

For those of you who have had BFing issues & then had the tongue tie corrected, did it make a difference with their feeding? If it improved, did it happen straight away? We have only fed a few times since, but so far I'd say no improvement :-(

    Thanks!

DD2 had a tongue tie that was picked up by the clinic nurse, as I struggled with attachment issues and constant cracked nipples.

Once she had it cut I noticed a change in her feeding almost immediately and my nipples healed within about a week.

I hope things improve for you soon!!

DS had a fairly severe tongue tie it was snipped at 5 days old (I wanted it done before heading back to Darwin which we did when he was 10 days old) I noticed the difference with bf from the first feed afterwards - still a bit sore from the cracks in my nipples but his technique was heaps better.
He is now 2.5 and can't poke his tongue out very far but it is much better than it was as a newbie.
Good luck hope it has helped.

DS1 had a severe tongue tie, snipped at 7 days, no drastic improvement but I was very damaged so I think it took time for me to heal enough to see improvement.

    Thanks seacretsquirrel, good to know.

KAnn - but you did see improvement eventually? Were you able BF as long as you wanted to?

Sorry for slow reply! Yep bf did improve slowly, didn't bf as long as planned but this was due to other issues.
