It seems to go in cycles. When a new stage of some project starts up, the companies snap up all of the rentals they can, offering hundreds above asking price just to save themselves from wasting time competing with everyone else. Something must be about to expand or something.
I made a couple of calls today, and I'm hearing the same thing. As I said, get in touch. I'll do a bit of asking around to see if there is anything being leased privately around the place.

Thanks but I can't private message - possibly something to do with being a new user??
Craignkat - mt hubby and I have literally just moved up here, been in our place about a week, hubby stared in Nov. We are in South, ut I wouldn't agree that it is hard to find somewhere due to mining companies, it's a case of viewing and applying there and then. We were looking but finding a spare $12,000+ for a deposit was proving difficult, sowork leased on our behalf, if we had had the deposit then I don't think there would have been problem finding somewhere.
Thanks LottieS but we have applied for a few properties (the only few that have come up) and have lost them all to BHP people. We even offered an extra $250 pw for one house but still lost it! The deposit isn't an issue there just isn't many houses up for rental.
DH is in town now (staying in a camp) so is now available to look at them rather than relying on people we know in town. Hopefully something comes up soon.![]()
