Default how many mg of zofran?

My friend gave me some zofran for my severe nausea. I dissolved a 4mg wafer on my tongue but it hasn't helped much. How much are you supposed to have as I have heard mixed responses from 4mg to 8mg??
What has been everyones experience with zofran out there?? Thanks.

I would recommend not taking any prescription medication that is not prescribed for you. There's a reason it is on prescription.

    ^^^ I agree....

Zofran is supposed to be dissolved under the tongue not on. Probably why it hasn't helped

    agree with pps.

Zofran comes in both 4mg and 8mg wafers/injections, not sure under which circumstances different dosages are given.

bit suprised your friend gave you some as they are really expensive, like $10/wafer i think. and there are only ceritan circumstances in which docs can prescribe, and often no repeats.

I will do anything to take this nausea away and everyone swears by zofran. A dr I went to would not prescribe it as he did not know enough about it but, as I said, everyone swears by it. Only those who have suffered severe m/s would understand how cruel this is.
My friend had some from when her son was in hospital recently. If it works then I will find a dr who will presrcibe it!
And some say to dissolve on the tongue, others say under! I only have a few so will try it differently tomorrow!

i understand. i needed zofran just to move with my bub. it was a life saver. i only had 4mg and only took it when i had to go out as it is very expensive. im sure you will find a doctor to prescribe it for you.

I've been on Zofran since I was 11 weeks along (now 27 weeks).

If your doctor doesn't understand it probably worth getting a second opinion.

I started on the 4mg wafers and would just let them dissolve on (not under) my tongue and they worked wonders.. I lost 8kgs, ended up in hospital and on a drip and this was when they were finally prescribed to me.

They are quite expensive and I was going back to the chemist every 4 days to fill another script (and yes they are about $10 PER wafer) so make sure you've exhausted ALL other options, some people find maxolon works as well so if you haven't tried that speak to your doctor.

I'm now on the 8mg tablets which I break in half as it's cheaper and last me a week.

I would be very careful about taking them without a prescription or speaking to another doctor who knows a little bit more.

Good luck and I hope you get some relief soon... believe me when I say i know how you feel and I wouldn't wish it upon anyone!

Hi usually starting dose is 4mg and if it fails to work you increase to 8mg, max 8mg every 8hrs.

Lots of Gps etc don't use it as its PBS reason for use is for Chemo patients and that's the reason it is so expense as its use is "off label". Its a fairly safe drug, safer than maxolon, which has lots of side effects at higher frequent doses, but its always your first line anti-nausea drug.

I hope you feel better soon, ask an Ob they all use it
