    Default Referral

I saw my gp sometime ago who diagnosed Pnd. I refused anti dep tablets but he did organize the govt subsidized phsyc stuff for me. I never went..& am now sinking again
The phsyc he referred me too is out of my area & I'm too embarrassed to go back to my gp. Can I just make an appointment with a local phsyc? Will the subsidized treatment carry across?
Sorry if this is clear as mud :-/

Please someone correct me if I'm wrong but I thought your gp has to arrange the referral. If you want to clarify you could always ring another psych and ask the question??? nothing to lose by asking over the phone.
Please don't feel embarrassed. You are taking the right steps and hopefully talking with a psych will be a positive step for you.

The steps are to obtain a 'Mental Health Plan' from your GP so that you can get some subsidised sessions. Otherwise you will be required to pay full price for every session (it's definitely worth it to get the plan). You can choose whichever psych you want, it doesn't have to be the one your GP referred you too. Perhaps your GP will be happy to fax the referral to your chosen psych so that you don't have to obtain a new plan (if it wasn't too long ago).

Don't feel embarrassed, it is awesome that you are taking steps to seek help
