I didn't even know it was the done thing these days... I only ever gave out a handful of cards to my closest friends at school (usually with a candy cane, like a PP said!). At dancing it was a bit of a "thing" where we all gave cards to everyone, but that was only for a few years when we were teenagers, and I think most of us did it because it's embarrassing to get a card from someone and not have one to give to them! Lol.

I personally won't be encouraging my kids to give cards to everyone. It's a waste of paper/card/whatever and at least 50% of the time holds no real meaning. I would prefer them to just quietly give a special card to their closest friends, and not in front of others where possible.

Then again, I've slowly come to find Christmas cards pretty tacky and pointless (unless handmade with obvious effort), so I guess I just don't understand why anyone would want to give them anyway.

I recall lots of christmas card nastiness when I was at school. I will admit to being guilty at the age of 8 of putting a christmas card in the class bin There was a lot of back story though..

But yeah, I don't really see the point of christmas cards, for kids or adults..

Both my boys loved writing cards to all the kids in their class.
