Good luck to all of your ladies who are starting the IVF journey & also to everyone waiting for the BFP - crossing my fingers that you get one!

Thanks Bala - we will talk to a counsellor at the clinic. We do have enough money in savings to pay for IVF-PGD, it's just more that I want to make sure we have enough left to actually raise the child when we are on one wage with no PPL. I think that's the part that scares me a lot because we have a mortgage etc, and I don't want to find we run out of money.

Did anyone else feel like that? I guess for me I like to think about the future, I want to make sure we are well set up to actually raise the child and give them the best opportunities we can etc, and actually pay the mortgage etc. I'm hoping we will only need one cycle, but if we need a few we will literally drain our savings, than it will be a real struggle when I leave my job etc.

I found that you can only think about the money at present. Don't try to look to far into it with maternity leave etc because you only set yourself up for further heartache if that cycle doesn't work. I recall our first cycle that we conceived our dd - we were $1000 short for that cycle but thankfully our tax returns came through and between us we had exactly $1000 tax returned. Things have a funny way of working out like that. Good luck.

Squeak - those ill babies are cooking well, what great numbers. When is transfer?

Hearstringz - feeling for you. Where there is a will there is a way. Maybe look to other clinics both here and overseas. Prices vary a lot it seems. There are loads of options. May be worth talking to a counselor at the clinic before you do anything else and worry yourself even more. Take care

I had egg pick up on Monday and transfer yesterday. Out of the 9 collected we ended up with 6. Transferred two excellent lookking blastocyst yesterday morning and the other four are still maturing and will be frozen today. So 11 more days we find out if we have one or two little miracles growing. I am remaining positive and excited about the possibilities. I pray for one miracle - the thought of twins scares me. I beleive though you are only given what your can handle in life. So if it is twins bring it on! Sending all my positive vibes to all you amazing women out there.
Thanks. I am doing ok. Transfer is tomorrow and I am sure it will go ahead as I feel fine.

Squeak - hope the transfer went ok!!

AFM - hubby & I finally had a discussion about finances without arguing & decided that if we start saving now, we should have enough to pay for IVF when the time comes. We have started up a seperate savings account for it & a better budget etc and won't be selling the boat at this stage - that will be left as a 'worst case scenario' if we really run out of money.

Btw, those of you ladies who work full-time, how did you go getting time off work for your IVF?? I haven't even started yet, but I have already encountered problems - I put in two & a half weeks ago for a day off (ADO - i have enough time up) in a couple of weeks so that hubby & I can go and see a geneticist. It was hard to get that appointment so soon, I am not keen on rescheduling.
But my boss decided to wait until today (and only after I chased her up) to tell me that she is not happy about me taking that day off as my counterpart already has leave approved for that day. I told her it is for a specialist appointment so she agrees to let me have it off anyway.

Hoping I don't have to go through this every time though - especially when I have to have the hospital proceedures etc and need a couple of days off. I'm walking on egg-shells at my job anyway and I really really really can't afford to lose my job over this. My job situation is not going to improve until Mr Newman gets kicked out of parliment, so I am not willing to wait until then to have IVF.

    Hi all
Hubby and I are totally new to all this, so any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated.
We live in Redcliffe area, and hubby had a vasectomy reversal around 5 years ago which resulted in very low numbers (less than 1 million). Hubby and I are 37 and appart from my cycles starting to get longer ( gone from 28 to 32/36 day cycle), I am pretty sure I am all fully functional.

Any way we are considering the IVF path but totally have no idea what to look for in a specialist apart from the affordability side of things.
I have seen The Fertility Centre is quiet cheap and also City Fertility Centre.

Does anyone know anything about these two centres or have any suggestions of any where else that is good and affordable?

Can anyone give me a basic breakdown of costs involved?

Any help or advice on this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

Squeak - I really hope all went well with transfer. The waiting game now. Sending you positive bubba vibes.

Heartstringz - I am delighted things are working out for you. Life has a way of doing that when things should be. Newman continues to worry our household also with job security or lack of it, we are both Qld health employes. Don't let him delay your plans. As for work and time off - are you in a union? I would invesigate What your legal rights for time off for such health concerns for your particular state award.

Hoping41more- I am new to this too. Welcome. I decided to go with warren de ambrosis at QFG. He came very highly recommended to me from several people. I did investigate the cost difference with the new facility at spring wood as opposed to his clinic. Spring wood clinic was cheaper, however I felt for my purpose the drugs and transfer day of day 2 as opposed to day 5 made more scientific sense to me. I was able to get costing over the phone from several clinics when I called. We did IVF/ICSI - $7600 I think. We are in a health fund and not sure yet what we are to get back as have not put in receipts to Medicare and health fund yet.

In 8 days I hope to get the positive result I pray for. I really dislike wishing my life away to this date. I can't help it. How can I make it less consuming?

Squeak - good luck with your tww!

Heart strings - I agree with Bala don't let Newman change your plans.

Hoping4onemore - hopefully your stay is short and sweet. Good luck. I am also with warren.

Bronwyn and Amanda (if you're still around) - I recall you both trying saizen. How much is it costing these days? I am starting to consider it for my November cycle. I'm running out of options. I put the pressure on wazza to test my dhea levels to see if I reall should be on it. Hopefully results come back towards the end of this week.

Thanks Bala! I'm not in a union and I'm only temporary so not sure what rights (if any) I have from that respect but it's definitely worth while looking into. By the way, good to hear that you are happy with QFG, that's probably who we will end up going with. Good luck with your positive result!!! Crossing my fingers for you!

Welcome to everyone that is new, I hope that you all have very short journeys with ivf.

Nicole - popping on just for you! We saw Wazza a few weeks ago and he told us that the cost of Saizen had gone up - to $190 an injection. So not happy our last cycle had me using 17 saizen injections. We did them daily and to reduce cost he is suggesting doing them every second day for our next cycle. Good luck.
