Default Gillard to be paid more than Obama...SO WHAT?

A friend of mine made a commented today that Gillard's pay rise means she will make more money than Obama. Now aside from the fact that her pay rise may be a lot, who cares if she is being paid more than a MALE?

I think for me, it bugs me because Obama has a much bigger nation to look after, for one. Also it bugs me that our nations hardest workers (cops, nurses etc) have to fight so hard to get 1-2% payrises and pollies like her get them for no apparent reason (along with all the other perks). I don't doubt that she works hard etc but when the govt cuts funding to other area to save money and then the budget is blown out to cover ridiculous salaries, pensions, travel etc.... well, it doesn't sit right. Gender has nothing to do with it. I don't care if she gets paid more than a man, but I also don't think she should be paid more for being a woman.

This is what annoys me too...

And Obama is supposed to be the most powerful person in the world... maybe he is, and just not the greediest? Who knows?

But the main part that annoys me is that this Labor gov in particular have been very much out of step with the general public, they really aren't that high in popularity and most people I talk politics with really don't have a lot of nice things to say about them... and yet they think they deserve a payrise?

    Doesn't fly with me.

Most people that stabbed someone in the back would get a few years in jail, not a $90k pay rise.

By the sounds of it, your friend wasn't complaining about her being paid more than a male, more the fact that she gets such a huge pay rise, when nurses, police and many other people can't get 4-5%

I personally think its very wrong to cut from the average person and give it to the already rich. Politicians already have all their travel, accommodation, meals etc paid for, so why on earth do they need a pay rise?

Your average Aussie earns more than your average American as well. I think it's very poor timing for a payrise but I personally don't think pollies are overpaid apart from the pensions. I think it would be the most awful job. You have to be on the ball all the time and are the subject of endless ridicule despite most of them putting their hearts and souls into the job (whatever we think of the policies). I'd much rather be a mining magnate and earn billions of dollars a year off public assets and then cry poor me when someone suggests I should pay more tax
