I have heard the SMEP works well but I think you do need to approach it like a military operation.....but worth it if it works for you in the long run. What type of OPK's does everyone use? Reading others posts it appears as though the second line on their OPK's appears and gets darker till O day when it reaches the desired colour - I don't think (but am not sure) that mine work that way as last month there was no second line at all (only the test line) and the next day it was definitely O day....my gyno gave me the clinical ones they use for IVF clients so I am not sure if they work the same way as others on the market? I am definitely learning a lot from this site I have been feeling a little funny the last few days (high temperature, tired, twinges in my cervix/ovary region) but did an early pregnancy test today and it was negative so I will try a little harder next month. Does dtd twice a day during O time help, or does it decrease the quality and quantity of sperm in each batch? If we so luck as to get UTD we would love a baby boy (although would be equally as happy with a beautiful girl) - does anyone have any gender selective tips?

Debstar, we tried SMEP in our first month. Unfortunately didn't work for us, but I think the principle is sound. Basically because it makes sure you cover the most vital fertile days. We still kind of follow that principle...although not quite so military :-)

As for OPK's....I've never heard of any that work differently to the ones that have a test line, and a control line that gets as dark or darker than the test line when you get LH Surge. This is actually usually 12-36 hours before you actually O. I get lighter lines on the tests for a good few days leading up to it too...so it sounds a bit unusual to get no lines!? Are you sure it's an LH test(ovulation) and not a HCG one (pregnancy)??

Make sure you don't do the OPK's first thing in the morning and that you don't have very diluted urine from drinking too much. I try not to drink for a few hours beforehand.

Also, a surge could be very short so maybe switch to testing twice a day instead of once a day so you catch it?

Hi to everyone. I've been reading but haven't had time to chime in. I had an AMH test last Friday and I'm awaiting the results. The thought of it freaks me out majorly even though I know we need to have the facts. We are off to FS on Monday and I'm looking forward to getting some more info to help us along!

Thanks for the reply...my kits are are definitely the LH surge tests...maybe my levels are too low until the surge? It was my first month of testing so it may been user error!

I really think the natural selection thing (in regards to ttc, fertility, cheerleaders, etc) really is just a topic to muse over...and have a laugh about. People who can't/decide not to have children most certainly do not have inferior genes. I fully agree with NAT that childless adults give our society breadth (and depth). And on an individual level, choosing (or by circumstance) to remain without children does not = Less Fulfilling Life. I think it's an easy but dangerous idea to think that if I'm not able to have children my life will in some way have failed and I will not live happily ever after (there is an actual study where the findings conclude that having children does not in fact make you any "happier"...but does fulfil certain desires). That being said, if it does turn out that way I will be the one howling "WHY ME...AARRGGHHH!" I will then shave my head and become a Hari Krishna

I also have mused over passing on my crap genes..(arthritis since teenager, serious stomach issues, depression and other mental health disorders in my immediate family) and I think that it's awful and I wish these things on no one (esp the mental health stuff) but that there is always a risk with something and battling something or other in this life is inevitable.

Right, back to insanity...am CD24 and no symptoms (no matter how hard I try). Ah well early days..

I need some help please.....AF due tomorrow or friday but I would normally have some light spotting by now and I have nothing. I have had cramping in the uteral region and have thrown up several times in the last few days (unsual for me). I am very tired (but am also fighting a cold) and have had tingling in the breasts but not soreness as such...I took an early pregancy test today and it was negative..........I am not sure what to think.....I am hopeful but am unsure of what is going on....Any advice/help appreciated... I am currently 12 days DPO

Ooohh...I can't give you any advice as I have never been "with child" but from what I have read it sounds V promising, . The negative test could just mean the hCG hormone is not concentrated enough. If your period doesn't arrive, in 2 days, take another test...one that measures down to 10mlU/ml..repeat as necessary...ugh, sorry state the obvious..that will be $75 thank you....I'll shut the door on the way out..

Those symptoms definitely sound hopeful, but as you say could also be due to a cold. Unfortunately, HCG levels vary a lot from person to person, and while some people get very early positives, others don't get one until after AF is due.

As Rain said, check what the sensitivity of your HPT is - the best ones measure down to 10 mIU/L. I also found that the day I first got a positive, it showed up on the more reputable tests I bought from a chemist (detection limit of 25 mIu/L) but still didn't show on the internet cheapies (which were supposed to detect down to 10 mIU/L)! So get hold of a good test (First Response gets good reviews) and test tomorrow morning. (Yet more waiting!!!)

Will keep my fingers crossed for you!

Oh, for those of you who were on this forum back in March - my SIL is now officially finished rehab post the aneurysm. Her short-term memory seems to be back in full working order and her vision has sorted itself out. It's good to know that crappy situations sometimes have good outcomes in the end.

Sounds promising. I would do a first response test in morning. Good luck

Debstar, I bought a couple of OPKs a while ago and I didn’t get a second line either. I read a ‘consumer report’ about them online (don’t really know how credible it was, but..) it said that there is a wide range of LH levels that women experience with their LH surge, and a lot of women simply never produce enough to show up on a OPK. There’s also the issue of the surge only lasting as little as 12 hours, so you might just miss it. Anyway, given their price I decided that I could live without them. I have a pretty regular cycle so I know that I O sometime around cd14. But generally we just DTD regularly (about every second day) hope for the best.
