    Default Semen Analysis results

    Hi all,

I am a newbie to this forum. I went overseas in June and While I was there for holidays I got the SA test done just to make sure everything normal. My results were as below.

    Impression - Moderate OLigozoospermia

    Volume - 3 ml

    Color - Greyish white

    Sperm count - 11 millions/ml

    Motility

    Active - 40%
    Sluggish - 30%
    Non motile - 30%

    Morphology

    Normal forms - 60%
    Abnormal forms - 40%

I went to a GP in Melbourne in October. The GP advised me to get an semen analysis done in Melbourne. The results looked worse.

    Volume - 3.4 ml

    Conc - 42.8

    Prog. Motility % - 48

    Total Motility % - 63

    Total Mot. Conc. - 91.7

    Abnormal forms % - 96

    pH - 7.9

    Alive % - 65

    WBC - 0

Classification - semen parameters outside normal range

Comments - Abnormal Morphology: Head defects

Sperm antibodies IBT - Not detected

Can someone please tell me how bad are my results. Can my sperm become normal with some tablets or treatment? I am 40 yrs old and my partner is 31 yrs. We want to have a baby and after these results I am feeling low. I don't smoke and am a social drinker. I mostly eat home made food. Any suggestions or help on my SA results would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Raj.

Hi, my hubby has had quite a few SA done and had abnormal results - however when done properly at a fertility specialist they have been fine. Our fertility specialist said that normal path labs don't do them enough to analyze them accurately and also if they don't analyze them straight away it can effect the results. So I would suggest to get one done at a private fertility clinic as they are the experts. Also, take menevit. Our fertility specialist said even men with good SA should be on menevit when trying to conceive. Good luck!!

My husband had abnormal results. Can't remember what they were but we also had a zona bonding test which he failed meaning the sperm couldn't break through the egg. We did ICSI ivf and conceived our DD now 18 months and I am pregnant naturally with our second! Since the test DH has stopped smoking, come off AD medication he was on and took menevit for quite a while.

Haven't has his sperm tested since but obviously it's now working fine!

    Goodluck xx

Thanks a lot kellbell85 and blondekelli for your response. I feel much better now. Is menevit recommended by your FS? Where can I get those tablets? Can I buy across the counter? I will start taking menevit. Thanks once again.

I'd go on sperm max as that actually has a high concentration of zinc which your swimmers need to be strong etc. Esp if you have issues with motility..

My dh had a very low count, motility and mobility. He went on fish oil, sperm max, men's multi and herbs and his count went up massively!

    Gives us hope!

Totally normal to feel the way you do. Just take it easy on yourself!

    Get a proper check up.

    Best of luck!

You can buy menevit from any chemist and maybe even the supermarket?

Thanks jessesgirl and blondekelli. I have never expected that I would have a sperm related issues. Can someone recommend whether I should buy sperm max or menevit? When I went for sperm analysis, I had a week of abstinence. I didn't know that it should be 3 to 5 days. I am going for another test on Wednesday. Hopefully my results will be normal. I have started eating avacado everyday and fish oil tablets. Thank you all once again.

Oh one week is way way too long! Should never be longer than 3 to 4 days I've been told, otherwise your swimmers start dying off basically.

Dh loves it cos we are dtd every 3 days now to keep it fresh! Haha.

My dh was on menevit but was told it wasn't as strong as sperm Max. Sperm Max has testofen in it which raises nature testosterone as well. Maybe google them both and go with what you think as an educated guess,. Or go into a health food shop and ask them.

Good luck with your test! Keep us updated!
