As body image concerns can be a normal occurrence for many women, they may be underemphasised or go largely unnoticed. However, research has consistently linked negative body image with a host of adverse mental health consequences, for example depression and anxiety. Considering the negative consequences associated with body dissatisfaction, and the implications these consequences can have for a woman’s health and wellbeing, body image as a research area becomes increasingly important.
