One formula during the day, another at night.... Is it okay?

I have a very gassy baby! During the day while she gets plenty of time sitting upright she doesn't seem to get too uncomfortable, but at night time she spends hours grunting and thrashing in her sleep trying to pass wind. Once we sit her up for her night feed the whole torrent comes out and she settles down but she isn't getting a good sleep. Anyway we want to put her on Novalac for Colic which is meant to help with gas. At the moment she is on Karicare.

Can she have one formula during the day and another at night? (she also gets a bottle of breast milk a day)

I don't think it's advisable to mix formulas.

I would just change & stick to the one formula.

My bubba was on S26, then we started giving him bottles of NAN during the day and then S26 at night (similar to the reasons you said... NAN was lighter during the day, but S26 kept him fuller for longer at night). Clinic nurse said it was fine if he seemed fine with it. We introduced the new formula slowly at first. If it's not working, then stop (obviously!).

Why do you want to use 2 different formulas? If bub was only having one bottle out of one of the tins then that would go bad before you could use it all If it is just cost related, I think it would just end up more expensive in the end. My DS2 started on karicare we changed to novalac as he was uncomfortable and it helped so much!!! He then went back on Kari are about 8 months old and there was no longer any issues. Of course it's ok to have different formulas! They are all edible. It's like suggesting that you shouldn't mix any food. If it's suitable for babies, it doesn't matter if you give a different brand every feed. In fact there is some evidence that it is sensible to rotate formulas, as babies benefit from a variety of tastes. Breastfed babies get all manner of flavors from their milk, and it's not normal to eat one monotonous food for months on end.
