Mrs OC, personally feel 5 days is way too fast not sure if it is good or not...cos average stim days should be about 11-13 if I got my facts right. But I dont want to scare you or anything like that. Did they scan you at all before your stim? I am quite puzzled. U on the antagonist right? Or was it that this round you are on a much higher dose that generate such quick response?

I had more than 20 follies for my second cycle but only 11 eggs retrieved. This cycle have about 16 follies retrieved 11. Not sure about follie nos vs egg nos statistics.

LG38, glad to have you back! I know what you mean. However, Mrs OC is right. Take it from me, I had 11 but most of them were crap unless it is the sperm that is to blame...poor fert rate...I really am clueless. Who knows, one or two of those 5 are the ones you need? Rest well.

Aarrggghhh i'm scared now!! What if they get nothing!?!?!?! Although i just did a quick Dr Google and it looks like the bigger they are the better chance of them being released from the follicle. I hope this DHEA has worked and they are the magic eggies that will provide me with a bundle of joy!!

From Dr Google it looks like every single follie will have an eggie in it, it just means that some of them might not be mature enough or get stuck in the follicle if they dont all make it (no such thing as an empty follie? according to them).

please let me have atleast 4 eggies on wednesday that are good and fertilise

Yes it was antagonist and highest dose. Last time i was on 175 and then increased to 300 Gonal F midway through.

MrsOC, yeah hear so much about DHEA but havent personally tried them and I am not going there yet.

Whatever you have googled is what i have read too all these months. I had I think 2 nos 22 or 23mm follicles and was concerned they be overcooked (cos that was from last scan and we wait 36 hours after trigger and i am sure they will be bigger by then). On EPU day, I asked the FS who came in to greett me and who was also in the epu theatre, he told me it is possible they be overcooked but those 18 or 19 should be good.

We will never know not even after the retrieval since they do not label the eggs eg egg from 23mm follicle - overmature not fertilised etc...
egg from 18mm follicle - mature fertilised etc...

We are just told how many retrieved and how many fertilised, that is it! It is pretty much hit and run since we dont even know what goes on in the laboratory.

300IU isnt too high though it was your highest. Mine was 450IU.

for you too! that everything goes well!!!

LG - so glad you're home but sorry to hear you're disappointed when you were expecting more eggs, it's always a shock isn't it. Perhaps they were the BEST eggies and the others were immature still. It's hard to trust our FS at times since they hold our future in their hands. What day transfer are you, 3 or 5?

MrsOC - I am always on a 'flare' cycle which is fast: 7 days of stims (I am always on 300 Puregon as that's the max my FS will go), then an US then trigger the next night if follies are big enough. 5 days is even shorter though but your FSH is higher than mine. Your follies sound perfect to me, I am a true low responder. Remember the past 3 cycles I've only ever gotten 1 follie above 8mm and this last one I got 3, hence reaching my first ever EPU.

    Mom - hang in there.

Jaye - thinking of you wherever you are at xoxo

Pinky, Millie, Chook, Smurf, Ness, hi.

    Hi to all,

Linds, M2O, MrsOC - I think the disappointment is simply just related to having more follicles than I was told to ever expect. In the beginning I was told I had only 3 follicles on each side and woul d be unlikely to get more. I ended up with 14 and was told that between 8-12 would be ok for pick up. However, as you say all we need is one good one so here's hoping.

Linds - I am 5 day transfer so hopefully I will have at least one fighter to put back on Saturday.

I have a little discomfort at the moment which from what all of you have said is normal. Feels like Gas more than anything!!
I was given a 2 day Drs Cert which I may take advantage of.

Hi Ladies - I'm not doing a very good job of staying away.

Linds - very happy to hear your embie was transferred. Hope this is the one for you so you won't have to go through this again.

LG - Great news about the 5 eggs.

MrsOC - Good luck for EPU.

AFM - I have made an appointment with Wazza, on Feb 14 next year. I was afraid to see him before since was afraid of getting the donor egg speech, but now my FS is doing that anyway. I have no problem getting follicles - but they are often empty. I want to give everything a shot, and perhaps a diferent protocol from the magic Wazza will result in follicles with eggs in them.

In the meantime will continue with the TCM, and monitoring, if FS is still willing.

Hi ladies, I'm new here, but am encouraged by your discussion. I've just started an oestrogen priming cycle with Dr Wazza at QFG, who came highly recommended for working wonders with older gals like me. I come off the bcp this Saturday, but have been doing Lucrin injections and prednisone for a week now. This is a completely different approach to the standard IVF I did last year. Here's hoping for better results! I've been taking DHEA since early July, so I have absolutely everything crossed that this will improve my egg count/quality. EPU due around 8 December I guess. I'm feeling very excited about this cycle, moreso than with previous IVF or IUIs and my son keeps talking about new babies, even though he has no idea what's going on (but then again, he could be influenced by the births he's watching on One born every minute!!!).

Chook11 - Dr WDA is great. He really does try to take the stress out of a stressful situation. I've read fabulous things about him.

    Good luck to you all

Chook - think what great shape your body will be in by the time you see Wazza, then he can do his stuff and you'll be UTD just as he's renown for! I think it's an exciting step. I may have taken it had I not had a deadline looming for stopping the whole TTC process (June 2012 turning 40).

Patient - welcome in here, we have another gal with Wazza as well but she's in between cycles I think. What is estrogen priming? I hope it works for you, and you sound confident it well. I've been on DHEA for 4 months I think and finally I have had an improvement, going from 1 egg on 3 stim cycles to 3 eggs on this last cycle. All the best to you.

LG - yeah later in the day I had some bloating I guess but I am sure the more eggs you get the more uncomfy it feels. I would say it's gone by this morning & you may not need your 2nd medical cert. Hope so. I was very relaxed the 5 days waiting for my eggs, so today you will find out how many fertilised right? Fingers crossed for good #s.

Pinky - let us know where you're up to.

Mom - everything crossed for you.

Me - preschool drop off, swim a few laps, pick up packing boxes then home to continue with the move, cook dinner, vac, preschl pick up then bible study then home for tea. Pretty much my usual busy day! I love my life!

MrsOC - You're on a poor responders thread. Most of us have gone to pick up with 5 or less follicles. It's very hard for us to not become google doctors but we have to remember that as much as they do know about how the female reproductive system, there is still so much they don't know. I know it's hard but you have to trust that they wouldn't schedule you for EPU unless they thought you were ready. Also, remember that whilst IVF is a numbers game, you are better off having a few good quality eggs than dozens of poor quality ones. As we go through this process, especially here in the world of the poor responders, we adjust our expectations. You really do only need one good egg and most of the BFPs here have come from very small hauls of eggs. Please try to put your mind at rest and don't be scared. There is nothing that you can do right now but try to think positively. I have everything crossed for you.

AFM - we will be EPU buddies. I had the trigger last night and am booked in for EPU tomorrow. I have three big follicles and am hoping we get our one magic egg from there. One way or another our journey with IVF will be over in a couple of days or 2 weeks. Meanwhile, DH is still unemployed and as of this moment I still don't know how we're going to pay our IVF fee tomorrow. Eeek!

Since my journey is coming to an end I feel like it's the right time to say this. As far as I know, no-one here is a fertility specialist so whilst it's great that we can give our personal experiences we should try to remember that the primary purpose of these forums is for us to support each other. Over the last couple of years many people have come and gone, most of them with their BFP, but others with great sadness. For many of us this is the only place we can come to express how we really feel - our sadness, our joy, our fears, our panic, our wins and losses. The wonderful thing is that here we can find sympathy and advice. Lets make sure it stays a place where wonderful ladies can feel comforted and like they are not alone. Lets try to avoid giving advice or opinions which will make a fellow traveller feel worse. We are all wonderfully deserving women, who travel a very difficult road and many well meaning friends and families will add extra pressure on that road. Lets make sure that none of us are ever adding additional pressure.
