Yep I study full time online. I think its easier when they are younger as you do most of your work when they sleep, plus they are happy to sit in a bouncer, lay or crawl on the floor around you, but as they get older they want to play with you, with the computer and since they are able to move further away from you you have to keep checking on them.
Studying online takes a lot of drive and passion, it is easy to fall behind so you have to always stay ahead as much as possible, if you have a high maintenance or sickly bubs, it's best to wait, or even if you don't think you could concentrate on something other than bubs so much (mummy brain makes a HUGE difference to studies).
I love online studies but I'm able to make myself learn and concentrate it doesn't suit everyone, if you loved school and studying it's for you, if not, wait till you can take classes.
I started studying when DD1 was 3 months old - I still remember emailing in my first assignment just before the deadline with a screaming baby on my lap
I finished my degree after DD2 was born. I found it getting increasingly harder as DD2 got older, so I'd say that if you only have one at the moment and are ready to start, go for it!
It worked well for me, as I enjoy working independently, but some people find it difficult if they prefer classroom learning/study groups etc. All but one of my units had an online forum so there is a chance to chat with other students and discuss ideas and I found most of the tutors really helpful.
I'm studying at the moment through OUA and have an 12 month old I do most of my studying at night once he's gone to sleep.
OUA lets you decide how many units you want to do at a time which I find really helpful - sometimes I do 1 unit and sometimes 2, depending on what we have going on in our family life.
I was thinking of studying through open uni but in confused what to choose I don't want to choose a course that would be too hard I want to complete it plus I have a cert iv in hr I'm not sure if I should do a diploma in business or a uni degree in Other fields
I currently enrolled in OUA for 2 units with a 11 month old baby and 2nd due in 3 months time. I know it will be hard devoting 20-24 hours per week of full-time study as well as having to do housework and cooking but I am very eager to start. I agree that it can be harder when they get older before preschool as they want to play with you, yet having a baby brings its own challenges. Asses you individual situation, plan ahead and manage your time wisely. Stack up on a dozen of freezer meals such as pizzas, pastries and casseroles for the weeks you are too tired to cook while handling home duties, assignments and kids. Take care and all the best.
