    Default is this bad???

before i post i just want to say that i dont want to start a war with anyone who does this or disagrees with it. it is just my curiosity and my knowledge.

i have a friend who had a bub a while ago and i just dont agree with what she is doing. she was feeding her bub pear juice when she was 2-3 months old (she is a prem) and has been feeding her solids. i have read that for the first 6 months bub only needs formula or breast milk and then after 6 months give them solids. i think this is wrong...she is only 4 months old any one else think this is wrong.

I don't think it's bad. When I had my first they recommended solids anywehere from 4 months. Since I had her 14.5 years ago they have change, with my boy they said anywhere between 4-6 months he is now 11. With this bub it's more like 6 months. I don't think she's doing anything wrong. As for the pear juice, maybe there was a reason she was giving it?? Constipation or soemthing?? SHe obviously has her reasons for doing the things she does.

the doctor was telling her not to do these things. but she refused to listen and has instead kept doing it and bagging the doctor out for telling her that she is too young to have these things. i dont care what people feed their kids and when but when doctors are telling you no then i have to wonder.

Stuff like that should be per health professionals advice.

With DS he was never full with breast milk or formula so at a little over three months I took him to my doctor who did some tests (reflex stuff I think to make sure he wouldn't choke and could swallow solids) to make sure he wouldn't choke and then he started solids.

So it's ok as ling as it's done safely IMO

that was my thought. but she is going against what doctors are saying and just doing her own thing. but she is one of those who thinks she knows anything and everything. she has said to people i know i am a first time mum but no offence i know what i am doing and i dont care for your advice or opinions.

From my understanding (and no I am not a dr) but that bubs stomach and digestion systems arent able to cope properly with the introduction of solids and liquids at certain ages and they recommend breast or formula only from 6 months. It used to be from 4 months but about 6 years ago they changed it.

I personally wouldnt give solids or pear juice if there is no need for it...especially if teh bubs is content on formula or breast then there is no need to change it. If the Drs are also saying dont do it then I wouldnt. I dont think introducing it is a good idea....I have no idea what, if any, damage it could cause but there has to be a reason why there are recommended guidelines for the introduction of solids. They also recommend if you need to give something other then breast or forumla it should be water. Pear juice? Cant see the point!

Pears are good for bowel movement so maybe thats why she uses it. They are also one of the foods that are least likely to cause any type of allergic reaction are used in exclusion diets.

Western practitioners tell us 'the rules' but there are other belief systems and cultures that do things differently. I think if you are looking to increase your knowledge you can always google for more info.

If bub was a couple of months prem, then when she started using the pear juice, bub's corrected age was newborn basically.

Yes doctors get it wrong sometimes, but I don't think babies should be having anything except milk and water if needed on a hot day.

My 3 were 3 months early.

Generally advice from the hospital is, don't start solids till AT LEAST 4 months after due date, however if bub wants them before than, & there is no medical reason to deny them solids, than go for it.

The jury is also still out on when to start prems on solids, some say as I said above, others say 4 month from when they started milk feeds & the other camp say when ever bub is ready.

One of my girls started solids a month after due date. She was ready & wanting them.
Hospital went nuts at me for it but I was doing the right thing by her.

I personally would say anything to her about it unless youve been her shoes. Having a prem is hard work.

I went against our doctors advice too. I did what was right for US, there was no way A & T were going to wait.

I was a young first time mum when I ha my 3, nothing ill ever came of what I did.

No one knows their kids better than their parents.
