Default PCOS & first Gyno visit

    Hello all
So I was diagnosed with PCOS a few months back and FINALLY have my first Gyno Appt since diagnosis. My GP wasn't very helpful, and I diagnosed PCOS myself, then had to demand tests to be done to prove it!! Anyway.. I am flying to the City on Friday for my first ever visit to the Gyno and I was wondering if anyone has any useful tips/questions to ask etc! I want to be as prepared as possible as it took so so long to get an Appt and I cannot forget to ask anything vitally important!! I'm a bit nervous!! I'm assuming she may put me on medication to help ttc but really don't know what to expect!
    TIA!

Hi There! I just visited my GP today and she also suspects I have PCOS. I have a barrage of bloods to do on CD21, and also managed to get an appointment with a gyno a few days after that. Anyway, I was chatting with my girlfriend today who went through a lot TTC and she advised that I ask the following questions in my gyno appt:
How many cysts do I have
To what extent is this affecting ovulation
If you have to take clomid get a understanding of how long you should try before seeking alternative measures

My girlfriend ended up on clomid for a year, got frustrated and was told she could have a laparoscopy. Two months later she was pregnant. She says she wishes she knew this was an option earlier, because getting rid of the cysts was the essentially the important thing for her body conceiving.

Anyway, great question, and I hope you get more responses and have a great gyno appt. :babydust:

I can't really assist as I haven't seen a gyne, only a GP. My doc just put me on metformin and took bloods now and then in 6 weeks I go back and have blood tested again to compare. I also have to follow strict no sugar/carb diet.

I think when I go back in six weeks we will discuss further options, but I am just happy with the metformin for now as last GP just wanted me to live with it and keep TTC- even tho I wasn't ovulating

Thanks so much everyone!! I am so nervous about tomorrow!! It's already midnight and I can't get to sleep! Have to leave at 5.30am to get to the airport to fly out for my Appt!! Thanks so much for answering my post I have had to wait 3 months to get an Appt with the specialist so I really know nothing as my GP knows NOTHING about it... (along with the other GP here!!)

She refused to do any tests to diagnose PCOS until I went in again and again and demanded an ultrasound!! And when she read the results she was surprised and went "oh.. Yea you do have it..."

Haha yup it sounds like we do!!

All the best- and we are so looking forward to hearing how you go. Also, if they prescribe metformin- ask for slow release!!!! Side effects are so much less- so I hear!

Well it all went ok I suppose lol!! She said she was happy to let my body see how it goes, loose more weight etc etc.. Your still young, no rush.. Why does everyone say that!! I said to DH, it's the only thing I have REALLY wanted my whole life! So she prescribed me pregnisotone (sp?!) to bring on my period and then chlomid to make me O.

I have to take P for 14 days and then C on day 5-9, and then dtd every second day from day 10-20. Does this seem like the normal "recipe"?! I'm only on HALF a Clomid tab as she worries about multiples, even tho I said DH and i discussed this and are not worried if we were to conceive multiples..

For those that also took P, did your AF arrive after the 14 days or during? If it comes half way did you still keep taking it or stop? I forgot to ask I may have to give them a call!!

    Thanks heaps everyone

Sorry didn't see your message! Yea I had to wait 3 months too! It was horrible waiting!

DH came too but I was annoyed as when we got there they didn't do anything with him! I thought they would do a sperm count as what's the point pumping me full of drugs if his men ain't swimming! They said in 6months they will test him! (as I'm "still young" ughhh!) does that make you want a child less?!!
    Best luck to you!

They put me on ravola to make AF come and then day 5-9 1/2 a tablet of 50mg clomid to (maybe) make me ovulate. Day 10-20 is baby making time!! I am very certain that such a small amount of clomid will make me ovulate tho!! Will find out on day 21 (Wednesday)!

Oh and they were the WORST.THREE.WEEKS of my life constant headaches and migraines, tired all the time and nauseous ick
