    Question Could this be true?

    Hey lovelies.
I was doing some research on embryos and fertilisation and what not last night as I am having a FET this month.
The embie that I have frozen is a 5 day blast (perfect condition). The thing is, it started out as one of the eggs that was late to fertilise and was set aside from my other two fertilised eggs. It fertilised about 24 hours after the others. Then somehow managed to catch up to the one that I had transferred and was able to be frozen.
I found this online last night

"Some immature eggs require up to 24-36 hours in culture to mature. It is not unusual to observe “late” fertilization of such eggs up to 24 hours after insemination. However, the chance of a successful pregnancy from these late fertilized eggs is slim."
    http://www.fertile.com/ivf-san-diego.html

Now I am freaking out the embie I'm going to transfer is just going to be a dud! Does anyone have any experience with late fertilised eggs? Do you think this info accurate? I'm seeing FS today and will ask her, but I;m impatient and was wondering if anyone could give me any insight in the mean time lol thank you in advance. Hope you are all travelling well!

Hi dandelion I cant really help you out on this subject but would like to say, i had a look at the sight you mentioned and found it very interesting
I had epu last week and only had one egg retrieved. I was told the other 2 i had there where immature so would not be used ( i dont remember if they were retrieved or not as i had JUST woken from the anaesthetic)
After reading through the website u quoted, i am now curious to know whether the immature eggs i had could possibly have matured in culture????
I am certainly no expert on this subject, but i cant see why the emby u will have transferred would be any less viable than any other embies u have, after all, it did fertilise....and normally, regardless of how long it took, so i wish you all the very best for your transfer! I wouldnt think your fs would do the transfer with that emby if it didnt have a chance of survival, Good luck for a BFP!!!

    Heya Lifelongdream
    Thank you for your reply.
I think that you must have had 3 eggs retrieved but only one was mature enough to fertilise. I had 11 eggs retrieved but only 7 were mature enough to be used..of those 7 only 3 fertilised!
The website is very interesting, but I think it is an american site so perhaps they do things differently over there (try to mature eggs in culture after retrieval)?
Hopefully someone else will be able to tell us a little more! I'm not expert either, still very new to all this!
Wishing you lots and lots of luck as well, i hope your 2WW results in a BFP Take care! xxx

Oh I'm so sorry you must have been so devsated. I was terrified the whole time waiting to see whether we would make it to transfer or not. I can't imagine how disappointed and upset you must be! Was this your first cycle?
I hope when you plan to do your next cycle it goes well for you!
IVF sucks! There is just way too many things that can go wrong!
I keep getting told that it will all be worth it in the end though....

yeah, 1st cycle. Was on max dose gonal f, so it isnt looking very promising for any future cycles. Got appt in a few weeks with fs, and if he answers all my questions, just the way i want him to, we will try again for sure!
So many things can go wrong and yes, IVF does suck....although it IS my ONLY hope of achieving our ultimate dream!!! I just want it to work, for me and everybody else
