    Default Silent Reflux???

thinking DS 5 weeks has silent reflux....
    * he is bottle fed and has always been a spewy bub.. putting thickner in his formula has helped...
    * he wakes up distressed and wont calm down until he is held upright over my shoulder -(example today he slept for 50 mins then woke up distressed and in pain... and as soon as i put him over my shoulder he went back to sleep... tried to lay him down-scream... so i sat him on me and he slept for 2 1/2 hours....)
    * he still spits up a little after a feed.... sometimes he will spit up 30/40 mins after a feed...
    * he sometimes sounds flemmy after he is crying and after a feed.
    * after being burped he usually gets the hiccups

Does this sound like silent reflux??

im seeing our OB for the 6 week check up friday and am going to ask him.. but in the mean time would it be worth trying some infant gaviscon???

Silent reflux is so horrible for both you and bub!! those symptoms you described sound so familliar to me, my daughter had it but thankfully the doctor put her on medication and within a few days she was a different bub. On a plus they do grow out of it and you can eventually take them off the medication! Good luck and l hope soon you have a happy baby!!

My DS suffers from reflux as well, he was actually but in hospital it was that bad. Go and see your paeditrition about it, i doubt your ob would know much about it. My son is on Losec and we elevated his cot to a 30 degree angle because he hated being flat.
Reflux is awful for both you and your baby, I hope things get sorted out for you soon. My son is 5 months and is just only now starting to come good because he is starting to sit up. As soon as we started the Losec he was a completly different child in regards to pain.

Sounds like it. Losec has changed my BUB completely. Until you see the doc I would definitely give some infant gaviscon for some relief poor bubba. Just ring your Paed and ask if its ok to give the gaviscon in the mean time.

This. DS was different child on Losec.

We elevated the cot to about 40-45 degrees, and that seemed to make a huge difference. Also we kept him up for about 40 mins after his feed, and then slowly tapered it down.

Lots of as it can be really hard work. Do you have a paed you can ring for an appt? They usually prioritise small bubs even if there's usually a bit of a waiting list.

Another Losec fan here. It didn't stop the reflux, but it made her a happy chucker. My paed picked up on the reflux when he did the final check before we left hospital... she was 5 days old and he took one look at her and said "see how she's swallowing all the time? That's silent reflux". Along with the swallowing thing, she had a wet gurgly cry sometimes, didn't want to lie flat, got hiccoughs and kept my washing machine busy with all her little chuck-ups

Thickeners didn't work for us and Mylanta was refused after a few doses. Luckily I'd made an appt with the Paed to sort it out after I got home so it wasn't long before she was on Losec. Keeping her upright as much as possible and elevating the cot mattress with a foam wedge definitely helped. She's finally growing out if it at almost 12 months! I would suggest double checking with a Paediatrician. I'm glad I did! I would have gone insane wondering what I was doing wrong otherwise!!!
