I would follow the OB's to Buderim personally, as it is those OB's who have strived to make Selangor what it is now - a hospital where a woman's birth choices are respected and a model of care which is extremely supportive of natural and water births. It is believed that a lot of the reasoning behind their departure is regarding the recent change in hospital policy under the directive of Ramsay Health, whereby women will be subject to vaginal examinations upon arrival at the hospital, and constant CTG monitoring.

The hands-off approach by the current OB's is what has made Selangor such a beautiful and renowned hospital, so I would be following them if I was in that boat (I would personally never birth in a hospital, but Selangor is the sort of hospital which other maternity hospitals need to strive to be like!)

We have travelled to birth at Selangor and will do so again any day now. I was surprised to hear that all four obs were packing up and moving - hopefully women birthing at these new facilities will have access to the wonderful care I've experienced.

This will be our last birth - sad to hear about Selangor closing maternity. Hopefully they'll have some farewell function - it's a part of our life and brought us so much joy

    Hi ladies,
I had and interesting chat with my FS (won't name names, but she no longer does deliveries ). She is of the opinion that Selangor won't last until July, as they are struggling to get anaesthetists (and you can't have acute care without them). It will be interesting to see how the Selangor OBs fit into Buderim in the short term, as they have somewhat different approaches. I'm due early May, and while I would have preferred to go Selangor, will do my care at Buderim.

Eek! I hope they last until at least January when my little one is due!

Congrats on your arrival early May, iam also due early May, the 7th at this stage. We booked in with an OB from selengor but am also changing to Buderim as i have heard a similar story. It is such a shame about Selengor as we really wanted to birth there because of all the great things that we had been told about it. The annoying thing to is that you cant really get a straight answer out of to many people about exactly whats happening even the staff at selengor dont seem to know, and what you hear is not always true. I think for ladies birthing you need to have that piece of mind, well i know i do anyway

Oh Ali G that does stink! It really just reinforces what I was told - that July probably isn't when they'll close. I'll definitely be asking my ob about Buderim's capacity if Selangor does close early - don't want to deliver in a waiting room!

Ali G, does your OB know where she'll be working after Selangor? I imagine you can still book into Buderim if that's where she'll be working from. AFAIK, Buderim are doing a refurb in order to increase capacity, just not sure when it opens. I'm seeing Dr Benga on 28 Nov, and will ask then.
