Default Can I skew my GTT results?!

I'm having an early Gtt this week at 18 weeks, due to having undiagnosed gestational diabetes in my last pregnancy .. Which I only became aware of in my babys autopsy.

I'm worried I have it in this pregnancy after getting bsl's all over the place up to 11.6 and 5 9 fasting.

I've been told to carb load by my dr so the results are accurate .. I can't remember what I did last time but the dr said not carb loading my have lead to the false negative. All the research i have found online suggests carb loading has the opposite effect and preparares your body for the high glucose load to stop false positives, so if I want to fail I'd be better to not carb load?

I know I shouldn't try and skew the results but I'd much rather be diagnosed falsely positive and get the extra help, and monitoring I need rather that have another false negative and another baby die because of it .

Anyone know any more about This?

I haven't ever tried to deliberately skew my results but I've had 4 GTTs so far since adolecence. The first two before I was pregnant and the other two during pregnancy. The only one that ever came back normal was my 20 week test when I made sure I did the carb load properly...

Because the second one during my pregnancy came back high I was diagnosed with GD as well.

Just out of interest, your higher readings, 11.9 etc, how long after eating or drinking something with sugar were they? Do you know someone with a monitor that you can use because if you do I can give you the guidelines of what your readings should be at the four times of the day that a diabetes educator would get you to test at.

IMO I'd try and do the test properly (besides when you're pregnant we generally eat enough carbs for the test anyways) and make sure that you get another test at 26 - 28 weeks and then maybe even more following if they come back normal. From my understanding the further along you are in your pregnancy the worse GD becomes or I suppose the higher the risk of failing the test.

I've had this test a few times now and always carb load leading up to 3 days before as they suggest. I'm about to do another at 18 and then at 28 weeks. Although my endo did suggest that I could just start testing my sugar levels from the start of the pregnancy or do the two test durning. It might give you peace of mind to just speak with you ob and start testing your sugars now
