Best age to start toilet training my little man?

DS is 15 months next week and I'm starting to research toilet training.

How old was your little one when you first started teaching?

He's going to be starting daycare in a month or so, is this a problem? I read a thread yesterday about starting them as early as a year and I didn't know that you did that, boy do I feel silly!

Personally, I think 15 months is too early. Most kids train between 2-3 years. Between the ages of 1 and 2 DS had a potty, and we told him that wees and poos went in the potty. Just after he turned 2, he decided to use the potty all the time and has been in jocks ever since. However, amongst my group of friends, he was one of the earliest to get the hang of it, and many of the boys are now becoming ready closer to 3 years old.

Toilet training was one of the easiest things I have done with my DS, I think it was purely because I waited until he was ready, and followed his lead, and made the whole thing a positive experience.

I started DS1 at 21 months and he was toilet traind within 2 weeks (daytime training) I left night times until he was 2.5 but he caught on right away, he is 3.5yr now and only ever had a handful of nighttime accidents. DS2 turns 2 in 2 weeks and I am going to start him in the next month or so, just waiting for the weather to warm up a bit more, makes it so much easier to train during the warmer months as I just let them go nude/pantless around the house while they are getting used to it all. DS2 is already showing keen interest in toilet training so i dont think it will be hard for him at all.

As for daycare, they will help train also, DS1 was going 2 days a week while i was TT, I just made sure I packed plenty of jocks for him and they would just ask him every half hour or so if he needed to do a wee, would sit him in the toilet for a couple of minutes and encourage him to go (pretty much what I did at home) I trained sitting on the potty/toilet first, around 6months later he started weeing by himself standing up - he pretty much learnt this just by watching his dad. But I hear putting a sticker on the inside of the toitlet bowl and get him to try aiming at it helps if you are wanting to teach him standing up. Goodluck

Honestly, there is no 'right' age. It really depends on the child

I'm a big believer in they child will let you know when he/she is ready. I always let my kids go at their own pace, never actually 'toilet trained' them so to speak, they kind of Judy started wanting to wee in the toilet/potty on their own in their own time. Both were fully day trained by about 26 months old

Personally I think 15 months is early but if he seems ready, let him go

We started toilet training my 3 year old just as he turned 3! And luckily for is it only took him a week! He's still in nappys at night time but he's learning to wake me up in the middle of the night to pee

We started toilet training DS at exactly 2 1/2, he only wore nappies for sleep time. It took about 4-6 weeks, I really think you are best to wait until they are ready. I think I will wait till DS2 is closer to 3 as I hear so many stories about kids picking it up within a few days and I think that's because they waited until child was ready.

I toilet trained my 1st boy at 2 it was hard work & he had lots of accidents, I waited an extra 6 months with DS2 and he was day and night trained within a week. It is much easier if you wait until they are ready

J is 3 next may & his no where ready. He'll tell you his to lazy.

Girls trained in a few days last week. I let them lead & we haven't had any problems.

As soon as he can express the need to go verbally and can pull down his pants is a good time!
