Default Anybody overweight and doing IVF?

this may seem like an odd topic and I know that this can be a sensitive topic for most women but I am just wondering if there are any women out there that are overweight and going through IVF or even just trying to conceive.

If you have a story to share about how you are going with it and what your experience has been so far or if you have a success story to hear i would love to hear it

I am overweight with PCOS and going through my second IVF cycle atm with a BT on friday to see how it went.

would like to hear how other people are going if your struggling at all or having a good experience. Ive gotten a few bad looks from people and just curious about others now.

good luck to everyone who read this even if you dont respond

    Hi HamptonK

First of of all I need to say that my journey has been a little more complicated than others as I have a recipical balanced translocation of chromosome 2 and 15 and ademyosis and these are my reasons for my fertility issues here is my story and their is a posative ending so keep on reading honey,

I am overweight I have been through 5 ivf/icis cycles all = BFN after my 5th cycle they did alot of investigation and found my translocation we allso talked about my weight and was told how it can have a negative impact on fertility so at that stage i decided that i would not do another cycle till april 2010 and try and loose weight through that period i was successful and lost 10kg just from exercising and living a healthy life style.

In march i was not thinking about the ivf journey at all i was feeling great and just having fun it felt like i have my life back prior to IVF but i had noticed that i had been feeling light headed and a little off for a couple of day but never thought i would be pregnant as it was only a 1% chance of that ever happening one of my girlfriends (IVF) i was with her when i felt faint again and she said to me you are so pregnant i laughed well any way a week latter my ivf clinic as i do a long down reg cycle i was ment to pick my drugs up and i had not been in called to see how i was going i told them i was waiting for af another week later still a no show did not think of it as it was always late prior to cycle so i got talked in to by the same friend above to do a poas so i went to the shops and brought on and was so shocked that i got and now i have a beautiful son who is 10 months and this was only with a 1% chance of it happening naturally we are now about to start a cycle for #2

I do know with PCOS it is hard to loose weight but it you just eat healthy you are helping your body to work the best it can I wish you all the luck with your cycle

Thank you for sharin your story with me. Congratulations on your son and I hope that you get a bfp for number two really soon your story was encouraging.

Hubby and I have been tryin for 3 years. I have pcos and he has morphology issues etc, our chances are between 0-1%. after about a year of trying I did loose about 25kgs over a few months to improve our chances but after about 6-9months and still nothing it became hard to keep it all off. I have put alot of it back on. Ivf seems to be our only chance at the moment. Hoping for a bfp tomorrow but we will see. It's nice to see that I do have hope

Thanks again for replying to the thread and I wish you the best of luck.

    Hi Hampton,

I was overweight too when we started IVF and unfortunately put on a bit more weight through all the drugs etc. I don't have PCOS. We were very lucky on our last attempt (FET) to finally get our sticky one (we had been through 3 chem pregs & 1 missed miscarriage) and she is now 9 1/2 weeks old. I was probably the heaviest I had ever been going into the transfer for her and had almost given up hope we'd ever get lucky.

As much as some FS say being overweight negates your chances there are quite a few women who do get pregnant while overweight. I wish you a positive result today

Hi HamptonK, please don't let anyone make you think that it's all about weight. I am not overweight and don't have POCS and still need IVF to have a baby. Plenty of heavier women can conceive children and just as many slimmer women can't. Just be as healthy as you can. I see you are young (sorry, I hope that doesn't sound patronising) so you have time on your side. to you.

hoping4asticky1 - thank you for replying to the thread. sorry to hear about your chem pregs and the miscarriage, but congratulations on your 9 1/2 week old daughter. again its great to see someone have a happy ending.
my fs has been pretty good, we were upfront about my weight and he sees no reason why that should mean i dont get the same treatment as everyone else. so its been great to have a doc that looks past that.
unfortunately we got a BFN with the BT today, so on to another stim cycle as we only had one frozen embie which is now gone.
all the best for you and your new little family

Riversong - thank you for your encouragement. i know its not all about weight but there are people out there that make you feel as tho its your fault you cant fall pregannt cuz your over weight, and i have been accused by some for taking the easy way out aparently by doing IVF even tho i have pcos and my husband has morphology and low count problems. anyway beside the point. i hope that you have great success with your ivf journey and get a BFP soon.

Yeah, IVF is totally the "easy way out". I mean why just shag when you can feel REALLY awful with lots of drugs and injections and invasive procedures? Oh and don't forget the 'bonus' that you get to be $10k poorer each time. Please tell me you punched that person in the head

Totally agree river song and yeah let's just say they got some verbal abuse and I no longer talk to them. I could not believe it when the words came out of their mouths.
I try not to think about them anymore. I'm glad there are people that agree they were out of line.

I agree with Riversong........ some people are just so shallow!!! Why would we all fork out so much money, and put ourselves through so much emotionally, physically, if there was another choice. I feel sorry for these people when they have their own kids. Imagine how shallow those children will be?????
Hampton, you keep on keeping on. It will happen, you just have to keep at it.

    hi hampton,
i am overweight but am lighter now than i have ever been. when we first started ivf in 2006 i was 30 kgs heavier. we had a few years break and this year have been giving it go once again as i feel healthier and fitter than ever.
i have been working with a personal trainer who feels that its her goal to get me pregnant too she is a real motivator.
it has been hard this year with two BFP and two m/c in a row, but we are trying again this month.
hang in there, my mother in law said to me the other day if it wasnt for ivf she would only have one grandchild and she has 6..
i know know i will have a child one way or another
good luck...but surround yourself with positive people and give those opinionated, unintelligent, inhumane people the flick because you wouldnt want them having anything to do with your child with those attitudes!!!!
Me:38 (PCOS, blocked tubes & NK Cells) DH: 39 Furbabies: 12

    2006-2012 IVF with One clinic (5 stims, 8 transfers, 4 m/c)
    2012-2013 second clinic x 1 stim (1 negative)
Starting 7th stim cycle in July/Aug and 10th transfer
