    Smile Buy Nothing New Month

October is Buy Nothing New Month.

Buy Nothing New is not about going without, nor is it Buy Nothing New Never.

It’s about taking October to reassess what we really need, think about where the stuff we buy comes from (finite resources), where it goes (landfill), and what our alternatives are.

It is about conscientious consumption and by not spending on stuff we don’t need, increasing our savings for the things we do need.

Pledge to Buy Nothing New during October and challenge over consumption.

You’ll have more time on your hands and money in your pockets.

This is something I've been trying to do for the last year or so (not buy *nothing* new, but definitely challenge my own views on what i actually need and how better to obtain things), and i think this challenge will be hard but really really fun!

Who is in with me? It'd be great to have some buddies to help think of ideas to get around buying new things

Ppfft, you can wear someone's second hand maternity bras! Just scrape off the caked-on old breast milk

Pretty sure they'd be considered an 'essential' so you could still join in!

I did not buy myself ANYTHING new for 12 months during 2009. I had been overseas and had put a heap of clothes in storage while I was away. When I saw it when I got back I could not believe how much I had and really didn't need to buy anything new for ages. Also I had just had DS so didn't have a lot of cash to be spending.

I had often shopped out of habit or for something to do rather than any real need for things. Like most people I had clothes I had rarely (or never) worn and several peices that didn't really go with anything else I had.

It was quite a liberating experience and saved me a fortune.

Even now I am much more careful about what I buy.

    I would recommend it.

I think this is a good idea!
Except that tomorrow I am going to bunnings and buying a garden bed and starting a veggie garden for DD. She's into eating what she has grown so I figure it's a good investment and good for us!

I'm in! I waste too much money buying stuff I don't actually need.

I'm in too. I'm a bit of a compulsive spender (don't tell DH) so this will be a great challenge for me
