Default 3 week old with constipation

Hi everyone, not sure if I should be worried or not... DD has been straining to do poo for past 24hrs and only managed to pass little specs of poo. She is peeing well and feeding her usual self. Shes also straining to pass wind . this wasnt a problem before and usually pooed 3,4 times in 24hrs. Is there anything I can try to help her?? Or just wait and see??

Is she formula fed? Just asking because it seems to be a common problem if they're formula fed with one that has Gold in the name (which means added iron).

DD got really constipated with S26 Gold.

if she is breast fed...dont worry, DS used to 'go' every 2 weeks while he was exclusivly breast fed. if hes formular fed, try a bit of warm boiled water, that should get her going!

A deep (ish) bath where bub can kick his legs can help get things moving, or 'bicycle' legs or gently massage bubs tummy in a clockwise direction.

If shes breastfed, i wouldnt worry about trying anything. If shes not pooing, its cause shes getting everything she needs from your milk without making waste, its just means your breast milk is GREAT!!! Like i said, the longest my bub went between bm's was 2 weeks.
I remember reading the longest an exclusivly bf bub went was 42 day!!!!!!

Poor thing fell asleep straight away ! its so hard to see your little ones in pain. I love bubhub for this forum so we can get experienced advise from all other mums !!

Can I mention though that even if she is exclusively breastfed, she shouldn't be straining to do poo and being uncomfortable or in pain as such. If she goes every 2 weeks but the poo is soft then fine, but if it is hard and nuggety and obviously constipated I would be checking with a doctor or a child health nurse next time.
It is the consistency of the poo which really matters. Keep an eye on her. She may just be getting used to BF and the outside world however.
