Moving to own room

Yes, ANOTHER sleeping thread by me, I apologise

I'm sort of thinking of moving DS (nearly 8 mo) into his own room. He currently sleeps in a cot next to our bed. There are a couple of reasons for me wanting to move him, one of which is I've heard some babies do sleep better in their own room. And it would be nice to not have to sneak into bed like a ninja at night so I don't disturb him.

It IS nice having him next to me though, and I am in two minds about the whole thing, because I know cosleeping is great, and it is nice being able to see him from my bed, and he is only a metre away for feeds and settling, etc. So, I'm undecided.

Ok, questions:

- When did your LO move into their own room? Do you think 8 months is a good age?
- DS' sleep is generally improving, do you think it is a good idea to move him now or might it set him back?
- I think that separation anxiety is starting to set in, which I've heard is totally normal for this age, should I wait till that passes before I move him?
- How to move him? I guess move the cot in the morning and maybe I stay in his new room with him for a couple of nights? Any ideas?

our LO moved into her room at 3mths cos she snores and it was keeping us up. its up to you what makes you happy. But now at 1yo she has lots of separation anxiety and sleeps in her cot from 8pm-12 and then in our bed from midnight ish to 4 and then back in her cot till 6am. All her day sleeps (at home) are in her cot in her room.

one idea is to let him explore his room first so its not strange or frightening for him. Let him play/rest there... Then after a few days - try his day sleeps in there.... then after a few more days try his night sleep.

Tho IMO, if it aint broke- dont fix it!!!

We moved DS at 5 months, only because he was growing out of his bassinet. I would have preferred to keep in with us longer to be honest, but his cot doesn't fit in our room.

We just did it gradually, I started him in his room at 7pm when he does his best sleeping. After his first wake he came into the bassinet. Now he is out of the bassinet he just comes into bed with me if he needs to be closer.

He was happy enough in his room all night initially, but now that separation anxiety has hit he is about half and half.

Could you have a portacot in your room just for the transitional stage? Or would you be happy to bed share for a few hours on nights that he needs you?

Kooglekat he won't bedshare. I know, it's weird, but he refuses to sleep in bed with us.

I thought the separation anxiety only lasted a month or two? How long does it last?

I moved DD at 3 months cus she grew out of her bassinet. She slept in her cot from 7pm-2:30am then she would come into the bassinet again. this happened for about 3 weeks, then she REALLY grew out of her bassinet and now she stays in her cot from 7-7.
She sleeps SOOOO much better in her own room and I sleep better when she is in her own room too!! If I want her to go back to sleep after 7am I bring her into my room and she sleeps on DH side of the bed.

We moved DS into his own room at around 4 months i think, and he slept much better.

We moved him because he would wake up every single time we turned over or made any sort of sound. He seems to have Spiderman senses!

Could you do day naps in his room to start with?

Ok so at first we decided not to move him, but we bought a king size bed yesterday (woohoo!) so we are going to have to move him. We are doing day naps there today and will move the cot back for his night sleeps for a few days. We don't have a portacot but we can just move the cot in and out

Hope it goes well, has anyone else got any stories or advice? Anyone's LO sleep worse on moving to their own room?

Initially DS spent a bit more time looking around and talking to this and that, but he settled down in a couple of days.
