Default Dumb question re: reflux (silent reflux)

Is it at all possible for Bub to have reflux and not scream in pain?

DD2 (17 days old) does not cry at all, very placid Bub, however she does not bring her wind up hardly at all - this doesn't appear to bother her however she constantly has the hiccups after feeds and at night although happy, will squirm, grunt and moan in her bassinet and make gulping sounds. She also has never spewed milk up. We are giving her Brauers Colic Relief occasionally and have elevated her mattress slightly and today we have made sure she is upright for a good while after a feed and she has brought some wind up.

She was small at birth, 2.7kg so hoping that as she gets bigger, it will be easier for her to bring it up - just so different to DD1 who would burp mid feed, LOL.

    Thanks.

Lots of babies have reflux but it is fairly mild and doesn't bother them. In those cases, doing the things like you mentioned (elevating cot, keeping upright after a feed) are great to manage it. Also, lots of young babies have difficulty with wind and it could just be that rather than reflux.

My DS has really bad silent reflux - initially he would just squirm, not feed well, and barely sleep. He didn't cry much either. The constant screaming started and escalated only when he had been refluxing for a while and the acid had caused a fair amount of internal damage.

You could keep going with the conservative measures to manage it, as it sounds like that has been helping her. If you're formula feeding you could try a thickened formula to see if that helps.

Thanks... pretty sure it isn't reflux, but at the same time still mindful of it. Bub is feeding beautifully and sleeping well - like you mentioned, we'll just keep doing what we're doing for a few days and see if she settles at night - obviously its early days and we are still establishing feeding, sleeping, night and day and getting to know each other! LOL...

It sounds like silent reflux, except for the no crying. Silent refluxers will cry in pain after and during a feed and they will be fussy when feeding.
