    Hi Sunny15 and Cartia

Its all easy with your regular credit card from home. They accept it everywhere and unlike home bring the cc machine to you whether it be at the servo or in a restaurant so it's never out of sight. Use your pin again as you would at home. I took out about 4000 rand (approx $350) and that will pretty mch get me cabs, tips, touristy ings, bits and pieces for the 10 days and we've put meals on credit card. it's absolutely the same as it is at home only far cheaper because of the favorable exchange rate.

We had the most amazing winery lunch yesterday with a bottle of champagne, a bottle of white, 2 courses each all for $100 Aussie which is incredible. Today an even better door experience a another winery, 3 courses each and about 8 glasses of wine (today's my last day of drinking!!) all for $80 for the two of us. And the food and service is amongst the best we've ever experienced amywhere in the world.

Anyone who is coming to SA must head out to the wine lands for a truly memorable experience. Stay out at Franschoek and eat and drink while you can!

Update is 14 good embryos all progressing! Transfer on Wednesday then I think I'll head home. Dr says you can fly home straight after so I may just do that.

Pixel - I'm so thrilled for you and your BFP. Keeping everything crossed for strong HCG levels.

Cartia - Last time in Cape Town I relied on my credit card the whole time. I'll give you a tip though. Don't forget to inform the bank that you are travelling o/s cause they blocked my card for security reasons while I was over there (which was such a hassle, getting it back in use again).

Twowhites - Absolutely brilliant result on 20 eggs collected and 14 still growing strong. You must be so thrilled!!! Lovely to hear that you are enjoying your time in cape town.

Makeba - I went to a great acupuncturist Dr Zhang & Dr Li (husband & wife team) yzhang@intekom.co.za The Chinese Medicine Acupuncture Centre is
    3 Kinkleway, Newlands
(which is only 5 minutes drive from the clinic). I'll be going back and having acupuncture treatment prior to my FET and the following day.

Hi to all the other ladies.

    Hi Ladies,

Makeba - thanks for the advice, I'm going to get a travel card also. Wow you leave soon, have a great flight. Look foward to hearing from you.
Twowhites - thanks for the info, I'm glad to hear I can use my credit card as normal. The dining out sounds wonderful. for Wednesday. Sounds great!
Helenmac - thanks for that tip, I wouldn't have thought to notify my bank! You must be getting excited, can't wait to hear your good results.
How's everyone going with their planning?
I think Makeba mentioned a few posts back about buying a gift for the dear donor. Anyone have any thoughts or advice about that?
    Have a great Easter Monday,

    Cartia x

Pixel - Good luck for tomorrow....I have everything crossed for you.

Twowhites - I was told during the week from a South African that a dollar goes a very long way...all that food and drink for $80/$100 - OMG I need to lose some weight now!!! 14 embryos...I could only dream!

Helenmac - This thread is such a wealth of knowledge....it never even crossed my mind to go to my bank to advise them of travel...thanks. Can I just say, I have read your journey since the beginning...you are one strong woman - it would have done my head in how much you have had to go through and how long you have had to wait for further testing, results and treatment. I wish my FS here took NK cell testing more seriously...when I had an endometrial biopsy, I asked him to do NK cell testing too and he agreed, but he didnt end up doing it and I only found out he didnt when I got the results back on the biopsy. He reckons he told me prior to the procedure he wouldnt be testing for it, given I was already on prednisolone, but I can say 100% and with my hand on my heart, he did not have the conversation with me...I later found out that he doesnt believe in NK cells. I have had the blood test, which has come back negative for NK cells, however, I understand the only definative way to tell is a blood test AND biopsy. I have elevated Anti-Nuclear Antibodies (1:40 - 2010, 1:60 - 2011 and 1:640 - 2012(a big jump)), but a specialist said that it shouldnt affect implantation. BUT a different FS said that it would.....it is so hard when there are so many differing opinions out there!

Hope everyone had a lovely Easter break.

    Hi Ladies,
we've been to our banks and asked about the travel cards. Found out they can't be loaded with Rand (CBA & NAB) so we'd have to load it with aussie dollars and then get charged a conversion fee when we use it (CBA - 3% I think, NAB - 4%) Conversion fee on credit card CBA 3%, NAB 2%, plus CC attracts a transaction fee of about $2 whereas travel card doesn't. Both banks say they issue you with 2 travel cards with different numbers so if something happens to one you can still use the other to access your money. The CBA said there is an initial fee to get the travel card and if you want to load more money on to it later they charge 1% of the amount loaded. Can't remember what the NAB is. My head is spinning trying to work it all out. Not sure if getting a travel card is worth all the extra fees and charges or whether to stick with the CC. NAB advised us to give them 2 weeks notice if we want to get Rand cash off them before we go so we have money to pay for a taxi, etc when we get there. Flights would be getting in around 8-9pm at night so I'm not sure what would be open at that time of night by way of getting money on arrival. Does anyone have a better deal with a different bank?

Another thing I've been told by the people I work with who have been overseas is the CC has to have the Maestro/Cirrus symbol on it to be able to use it over seas. I checked my CC and neither has this (both Visa cards) so we have to upgrade and are getting a Mastercard instead.

BB4me and others asking about money - really it's so easy just to use your regular credit card and have your savings/cheque account linked and just take out cash at ATMs in Cape Town as you would at home. Theyre everywhere and in many places have security by them.

Live travelled a lot over the years and used travel money cards etc but I probably wouldnt bother - as you say all the fees and charges hardly make it worth it anymore, and regular credit cards are now accepted globally almost everywhere.

I've checked my online statements and the bank charges are really minimal, seemingly about $4 to withdraw cash which is way less than the dreadful foreign exchange rates they're offering in Australia. I took out 2000 rand today and it converted with fees to $209 AUD from my savings account.

I was really worried about all this stuff before I came here especially since I'm travelling alone for most of the time, but I can honestly say its all so much easier, safer, less of a worry than I ever imagined. Plus the clinic's great!

Someone asked about Lucrin v depot v Syranel. I went with Lucrin daily as the depot shot dose that's widely available in Australia isn't the recommended dose. I too had issues with the reliability of Syranel - how do you know the correct dose was administered if you sneeze for example!? I felt the daily injections were best for me and I was happy I did them especially after the first few days of tiredness and headaches passed. They don't hurt at all either.

Question for anyone who has progressed to a BFP - who managed your next steps ie HCG/beta and scan, managing medications etc - your local FS, GP or did you go straight to an obstetrician? I'm not sure who I'd even go to for a basic pregnancy test and have same day betas done!? My GP is pretty hopeless!

BB4ME - I think your friends from work are talking about Europe where you do need to have a chip in the card. I had no problems with my non-chipped card in SA - however you MUST have a pin number even on cards that are just credit cards and not attached to savings accounts. They do not accept signature only. As Twowhites said you will have no problems with using ATMs.

Cape Town is like any major city and everything is open till late so there will be plenty of people around the airport at that time. There are ATM's there. However you can just get Rand from the airport in Australia before you leave - go to any of the Travelex counters and you will get a very competitive exchange rate. Assuming you are just going from the airport to somewhere around the city (and everywhere is pretty close to the city!) a taxi should be less than 300 rand.

    Hi ladies,

I just paid Nuture so we now have our donor booked My GP forgot to add Prolactin and TSH to my blood test form so I had to find a clinic open on Easter Saturday and a place to take my blood for the tests. I got it done though so I can pick up the results on Thursday .

CFC told me my dates for my cycle will most likely be July1-12 based on my travel dates and that as soon as I get my results back for Prolactin and TSH if they're fine then I'm cleared for treatment so as soon as I pay the clinic on Thursday is it ok to book tickets?

Is this when everyone else booked their tickets?

Crystal - yay for booking donor how exciting. We booked our tickets after the clinic gave us our treatment schedule and confirmed with us that it was ok to book. If you are unsure give the coordinator a quick email and ask if it is ok to book. Sunny15- Yep IVF is definitely an individualised procedure, what one person tolerates another person can't. Lucrin gave me severe bruising and was incredibly painful. I had no side effects on Synarel. For those asking you can tell if you are getting the correct dose as you can feel it going down the back of your throat, sneezing coughing etc won't effect your dosage. I guess I was used of hayfever medication and it's basically the same procedure. But I know that a lot of people can't tolerate Synarel and can tolerate Lucrin. Go with what you know and what has worked previously. Two Whites - To get my pregnancy test I went to a GP I hadn't seen for about six years. The GP will refer you for a standard pathology HCG test (you won't get the result same day though, it will be the next day) and if positive a repeat in 48 hours to see if the levels are doubling. In my case I was referred straight to an Ob after it was established my levels were doing what they were meant to do. You need to book an Ob ASAP as they get booked out quickly and it will be a few weeks before you actually see them.
