midnite, my FS kept saying we still had options however in the next breath he would say my eggs were poor quality I ended up going to my GP and she ordered all the blood work and another saline infused ultrasound so its as recent as possible. She can prescribe evrything I need for drugs etc. Maybe we have the same FS

DJSHEARS, there does seem to be quite a few going in June/July

Thanks Crystal - thats what I might do as well. We have severe MFI as well which is a contributing factor. last time we only got 2 eggs at EPU from 10 follies and nil fertilisation.

I am with CFC in Melbourne.

Midnite and Crystal I can totally relate. At 34 my first FS said that I probably wouldn't need IVF but it would speed up the process. After numerous BFN's they then said it was a "numbers game" keep going. At the same clinic a Dr doing a scan told his medical student in front of me that my chances were low and that women today think they can have careers and study etc when they should be having babies in their early 20s! That actually made me cry as he didn't know my situation and was pretty much judging all infertile woman.

At 38, my next fertility specialist found that I didn't produce progesterone. I thought that was going to be the answer. Next cycle I only got 1 embie to day 5. I asked flat out if I had an egg quality issue. He said it would appear that way but to try CGH. I mentioned egg donation and didn't get that much of a response, only that they have good programs in Spain. There was some discussion about ethical issues surrounding egg donation. I don't think in Australia they are very proactive about recommending this as an option - I'm not sure that they can be. Having said that when they found out I was pregnant they were very happy for me.

There is definitely a reluctance to suggest egg quality is the issue as FS can't really do anything to improve egg quality. The cynical side of me thinks sometimes they just get us to keep doing cycles in the hope that we will jag a good egg. I have not doubt that without egg donation I would never have got pregnant.

So at the end of the day it's your life and your decision. If you think this is right for you then go for. It is possible to manage yourself with the help of GP and no FS should make you feel uncomfortable for your decision.

Thanks for responding to me regarding embryo quality in older ladies - it is my understanding they just aren't as strong and fragment more etc.

DH is getting even more on board with the DE idea now which is good, but I do want to make sure he's totally ok with it and not just doing it because it's what I want to do. We had a quick discussion as the approx costs inc. flights and accommodation - would 13K be about the right mark? And he said we'll need to start saving after this IVF towards that if that's what happens.

Midnite - I'm at CFC too was with DW now with AP - I did a switch on my last cycle and AP will be doing my next round too. She has agreed (very easily) to assist with scans/meds for SA should it come to that which is great. I've found her to be lovely.

To the others who are going through their GP's - can GP's prescribe all the meds required for an DE cycle? If so that would be brilliant as I'm sure it would be much cheaper to purchase outside of a specialist/ fertility clinic.

I have a heap of Crinone left... maybe I can use that up!

    Em x

Hi Emski - I am with AE who is a nice bloke - just keeps saying we need to get the good embryo. Thats good to know that AP is open to it.

    My stats have been
IVF1 11 eggs 4 fertilised (after this did TESA)
    IVF2 4 eggs 3 fertilised (TESA)
    IVF3 3 eggs - nil fertilisation (TESA)
    IVF4 2 eggs - nil fertilisation (TESA)

    Hi Ladies

I hope everyone is having a great day. Yay! there are a few of us looking at June! I'm still at the stage of picking a donor but I can't believe the emotion I felt when I was viewing their profiles. It's such an uplifting feeling, if you know what I mean.
Summershine, Donna, Crystal, Midnite, I can totally relate to what you are saying about that golden egg! I'm sure my last FS had me doing cycles just to keep me happy my new FS was so honest about my chances and mentioned to me about DE in SA that I felt it was time to really get serious about it.
Donna, have you choosen a donor yet? I'm looking at EDSA and Giftovlife.
Take care lovely ladies and baby dust to you all

Welcome to all the new ladies.

Hoping things are going well Jennilee, I feel for you. We were considering the same donor as she apparently most resembled me facially as an adult. We decided not to use her due to her allergies. I wonder how she will get on when she decides to have a family, she might be in the same boat as us.

I asked the agency for information on whether the donors I was considering were good responders and what the average egg collection numbers were. The agency was not able to provide that information and refered me to the clinic and I was able to get that information. It helped me in my decision making.

We have decided to go with our number 2 choice as she did a donation in January which I am told is positive so that's two donations with two positives, the first one is twins, don't know if the second one is a single/twin. So I am hoping that is a good sign for our chances. Still waiting on confirmation that she will be available....

    Hi Cartia,

I did choose a donor through Sunshine but they were way way too expensive for us and to be honest, all in all, I have so far been happy with the email responses from EDSA. I have short listed 3 and have been waiting for a couple of days for confirmation from EDSA. I got them to send me the full profiles for a few and I keep coming back to the same ones so guess I have to wait and see now. I prefer my first two quite a bit more than my third choice (stupid I know but it only because the third choice has donated once before and it was a BFN). I realise it may not have been her fault and all of that but when you get down to the nitty gritty everything comes into consideration.
I have a feeling I am gonna be a July guinea pig! Will let you know.
It will be interesting if we are all after the same donors given how many Aussies are heading over in the next few months. What does that say for our system here in Oz?
    Donna xx
