Hello everyone! just thought I would add my two cents worth on the progesterone in oil issue... on my first visit to CT I used PIO and quite frankly, it sent me rather balmy...the actual injections were sooo painful, and this was even administered by an expert (my partner is an injecting diabetic). My buttocks were covered in sore lumps for the best part of 6 weeks after I stopped using them! The second time (when I experienced a BFP) I insisted that I be able to use Crinone from the start...I bought a swag whilst I was there, and should have bought more, as it cost me $800 to buy enough to get me to 10 weeks! Its much cheaper in SA if you choose this option. The doc said if youve used it before and not bled on it, then it should be fine to use, and so that is why I used it.
Hey Summershine! Not long to go for you now! Ive got 20 days til scheduled C Section, and quite frankly these two little boys are nearly baked...doc said to pack my bag...which i still havent done!!! thats a today job!
Well Done Nicole on 11 fert! I await your news on day 5 progress!
Have a fab weekend Ladies! WJ

Hi all, I'm a noobie to this forum and wanted to introduce myself as I hope to be posting my journey and following the stories of others in a similar situations as me. Reading your stories has been very reassuring to know that I'm not going through this alone.

I have primary ovarian failure so I've always known that donor eggs are my only option to conceive, luckily my uterus appears to be fine. I have found a wonderful donor through Nurture and plan to travel to SA to get IVF done at Cape FC. Both Nurture and Cape have been very helpful and caring. At this stage were trying to work out the schedule but it looks like we could be traveling to SA as early as the March 2013. it all seems to be happening very quickly!

Best of luck to all of you and I look forward to seeing updates on your journeys

    Hi girls,

I am a newbie!!!! We have done ivf for the last 3 years and have suffered the trials of m/c, blighted ovum and BFN...donor eggs too so pretty tough. We only have one frosty left but I don't want to use it at this stage.

So.... we are doing CT also. Not heading over till June but figured I could start learning more between now and then. I have been on the over 40's ivf forum for ages and one of my forum friends (also heading to CT) referred me here.

Sounds like lost of good positive news here!!! Awesome stuff.

Anyway, I hope to learn more about your journeys and share my story with you all.
    xx DJ

Sooo much activity in the last 48 hours it's fantastic!! Welcome to the newcomers, looks like this year is going to be very very busy on this thread, looking forward to sharing the journey with you all.

Nicole I am so happy and excited for you, 11 is a lovely number and I have my fingers crossed for a 5 day for you.

So it's less than 24 hours till we take off and I couldn't be more excited. All the nerves of last week are gone and I feel nothing but amazingly positive. Had my scan yesterday and at day 6 my endo is already at 7 so I am actually all ready for transfer now if I had to...I think my body is excited and getting ahead of itself.

Re the injections my specialist is going to put me on to pessaries as soon as I get back so yes it can be done (they do it with everyone they send o/s I think). Urgh - not looking forward to the needles. No injection before I head off Jennilee - but I will probably have my flight socks tucked up to my neck anyway haha..DH has me wrapped up in cotton wool right now so I'm not taking any chances with anything! Dinner sounds fantastic, looking forward to meeting you!

Well that's me over and out guys, will be in touch in a few days once we get back to CT after our trip to Sanbona for a safari.

Can I also say about the dreaded progesterone that if you do have a luteal phase defect please please don't use pessaries. That aren't absorbed as well by the body. My first clinic missed my luteal phase defect (for almost three years grrrrr) even though I would have bleeding 4 days after a transfer. Next clinic picked it up in the first month and changed me from pessaries to Crinone and it did the trick as my progesterone levels remained high even though it was a failed cycle. The PIO obviously also worked for me. Even though I asked my Dr in SA if I could use crinone he said absolutely not given my luteal phase defect so it was jabs for me all the way.

WJ - 20 days far out. I'm so excited for you, can't wait to hear further updates.

DJSHEARS welcome to the thread. June will be hear before you know it. The women on this forum are lovely and have a lot of knowledge about SA so any questions ask away.

    MissLeo have a good safari

Aussie123 Welcome to the thread. I went through Nurture as well they are great It's amazing how quickly things come together.

    Hi all,

Hope everyone is having a relaxing Saturday. I woke up this morning to a message from Dawn at Gift ov life to advise us that our Donor wont be suitable. Needless to say I am pretty gutted but on the flip side the testing that was done works! So now just waiting for Dawn to shortlist some Donors for us.

    Take care everyone.

    Cheers,
    Makey D

    Hi Makeba,
So sorry to hear you news, I know how hard it is to have another disappointment when we feel we have already had so many, we know we can pick ourselves up but hurts just the same.

My first donor picked didn't go through.

I am still waiting to hear of my current donors tests (she did tests on 6th) the wait seems like forever.

I hope you are back on track soon.

Welcome to all the newbies to the thread. I am hoping that when it is our time to go to SA that someone else will be going around the same time too.
Have a safe journey MissLeo, will be thinking of you.
Nicole, can't wait to hear how your day 5 embies went. It's saturday here but the day has only just begun there, hopefully will wake up to good news from you tomorrow.
WJ 20 days and you'll be face to face for the first time with your little ones, what a thrill that will be.
Makeba, sorry to hear you donor was unsuitable, at least you found out before making the trip. Our second choice is on hold for us so if our first choice falls thru we know we can still go ahead. Not sure how much longer we have to wait to find out.

Nicole, sorry, meant to ask, you were going to buy a sim card when you got to SA? Was wondering if you could tell us whether that was difficult to do? How much did it cost? Was it for an older phone? (they have a bigger SIM card than the new phones which take a small SIM hence can't be used in older phone). I have an older phone (~5yrs) that works fine and was thinking of taking it and getting a SIM over there however if you can only get the small SIMs then that's not going to work.
