BB4me - feb will be here before you know it. I sincerely hope all works out well. Thank you for your kind words.

Pixel - Welcome. Wow you have had a long and tough journey. Our donor would only donate in Joburg and we went through Medfem. Just a tip, we really had to push them for communication and had to rely a lot on our agent to push communication. Hopefully with their computer upgrades all will be resolved. Also bring all copies of international fund transfers and payments with you. They did not have record of our big payment due to an admin error. Thank goodness I had brought it all with us.

As for hotels, there is a lodge very close to the clinic. That said, we stayed in Sandton a very up market suburb. We stayed at the Park Inn. We did have a whinge after the first night as the room was very noisy (close to the street) but then they arranged for us to be moved to the quieter side of the hotel drive. It was very cheap including bfast with unlimited Internet when you sign up as a park royal member (for free). We booked it through agoda.com. The hotel also had a free shuttle that left on the hour to Sandton mall/Mandela square. It is an amazing very up market shopping centre with loads of restaurants and great shopping. The shuttle will also drop you off at the other park inn (there are 3) to access car hire. It is also where all the BA flight crew stayed, so that was a good sign.

The first day we took transport to the clinic, which was very expensive. After seeing where we had to go and how easy it was to find, we decided to rent a car.

After our donors egg pick up we went to Pilanesburg for a safari adventure for four days and then returned for the transfer. It was amazing. We drove to Pilanesburg and followed the GPS which took us a dodgy way and freaked me out a bit with a number of 'car jacking hotspot signs'. Returning to Joburg was much better as we got good directions to follow the motor way (I think the N1). So if you decide to do that be sure to get directions for the motorway and not rely on the GPS.

    I hope that helps. X

    Thanks for my Welcome

Laned- Thank you for all your tips, I will check out the park inn. I have been looking at the Radisson Gautrain and Da Vinci (which is inside the mall) and a few others. So far the communication with Medfem is quick when I contact them, but I agree seems a bit like I'm the one initiating things. I am going to contact Nurture today as Medfem are saying they are waiting for my donor to finish her checks (clinic re opened 7th jan so expected them all done by now) so not sure if they are contacting her to get them done. My donor has a donation deadline which is has to be all done by April. Really I'm just wanting to get dates as the flights are going up in price. My donor hasn't donated before so her response to meds is unknown

Thanks for the tips for a safari hopefully the budget will allow it.

Anyway am off to work now
    xxx

    Default I"m back!!

    Hi Ladies,

Sorry I have been MIA for so long. Some of you are aware that my AF went missing for 6 months and I was on a long journey of discovering why!! Finally to be diagnosed with stage 1 Ashermans Syndrome due to an adhesion in my cervix blocking the outflow tract. I am so happy to announce that my AF has finally returned in full flow!!! It was so wonderful to see AF back and I feel like my body has had a good cleaning out due to pooled blood in the cervix for so long. I'm now on the pill and I have commenced my immune treatment with the first shot of Humira last night.

I've been in touch with Karin from Cape Fertility Clinic to book in my FET for April. If I flare on the Humira then everything will be delayed a minimum of 6 weeks so hopefully that won't happen!

I'm going to have to go back and read all your updates and get familiar with everyone again!

Wow so many exciting things going on ladies!!

SVD I am completely over the moon for you . Keep us up to date with your next lot of results.

Nicole - where did the last week go?? Before you know it you will be on that plane and off on your wonderful adventure. Cant wait for your updates when you arrive.

Helenmac that is amazing news. You realise it's a whole different world us ladies live in sometimes when we get excited about AF haha. Glad everything is back on track for you.

Welcome Pixel. You certainly have had a heck of a journey and I feel for you. I have 7 cancelled cycles under my belt being a total non-responder to stims with every protocol with my only recent BFP being a natural conception from a 'spontaneous ovulation' during an IVF break that ended in a chem-preg. 2 others several years ago both ended in MC with no medical explanation at all so I understand how scary it is that you may not be a good 'vessel'. I'm hoping it was all due to crappy eggs but that means my insides are virtually untested so I have my fingers crossed constantly - and DH is so paranoid about the small problems with his swimmers and eggs not fertilising he made me book him for another analysis next week to check they are on track!! We can make ourselves crazy over all the little things, but really the best thing is to just relax and know that you have done everything you can right now. March will be here in no time and we are all here to support you on the next party of your journey.

I started meds today so I finally feel like it is really happening. And he Synarel wasn't as disgusting as I was expecting so that was a nice bonus to start my day

    Default Good evening all

Good evening all, have finished the days work and am on the couch with my cat and ipad and my husband being a guitar rock star on his new PS game - Rock smith!

Thanks for the welcome nicole72, I'm very excited for you as your so close to heading over

missleo- thanks for your support, yep best thing is to relax, guess its always that question "have I done enough?"

I guess l can only try DE and then find out if its my eggs or something else. However its a lot of money to be "trying" with. I also have rheumatoid arthritis and so far they have given me baby apsrin, pred and clexane. I'm not taking any other meds for the RA. My doctors have never really been focused on it as a problem for fertility, it always been about getting numbers and quality eggs. Even though l haven't ever got the numbers the embryologists have always said they were A grade and we have had good fertilization rates - hence my concern that its something else

helenmac - I read online that humira is also used for RA but I had never heard of it until your posts. I'm thinking I should ask my Dr here whether its something that I should look at. How do they test or the NK cells? and obviously this isn't a routine test as I don't think I've ever had it.

So nice to be able to share with others - thanks

    Hi Ladies,

I have been MIA too. It's great to read all the updates and a big congrats to SVD.

Helen - I'm so glad that AF has returned and that you can proceed.

Pixel - Welcome to the thread. I thought I might share some of my story as it might make you feel more confident about tryin ED. I also had good fertilisation rates and was told that my embryo's were "A" grade. However, after swapping fertility specialists I discovered that "A" grade is simply how they look, it doesn't tell you if the embryo is chromosomally normal, only CGH testing can do this. Prior to going the ED route I was on a mission to get NK testing however they did not do this in my state at the time. It involves having a biopsy. After a really bad IVF cycle where none of the embryo's made it to day 5 on day 5 I decided to give ED a try. Like you I was unsure as to whether egg quality was my problem or was it something else? Well I managed to get pregnant first time with ED. I am now convinced that I have an egg quality issue. I hope this helps.

Laned - How are you going? Are you feeling lots of kicks? I hope it is all going well.

Miss Leo - Almost there. I always choose Synarel I don't get any side effects from it so it's ok for me.

WJ - Not long to go I bet you are excited

To anyone I have missed I hope all is progressing well.

    xx

Thanks for sharing Summershine your story definitely helps and gives me hope. My Dr said he definitely thinks its my eggs when I asked if ED is a good choice for me.

I still haven't heard treatment dates etc from Medfem or Nuture

Pixel- Hi there. Welcome to this wonderful site. It has given all lot of ladies the inspiration to try ED in SA. I am one of those ladies We are off to Cape Town on Feb 16th. Time is going way too slowly... I am eager to get going. Good luck with setting everything in motion.

Misleo- I bet you are counting down the days as well. Do you know if Dr Wiswedel uses ultrasound to place back our precious embies?? Here in Perth, my FS doesn't do that. I had an ectopic pregnancy on our second transfer and have alwyas wondered if this happened because she didn't place the embie in under US. I picked up some of my meds today. I start my Synarel around Feb 1st. Are you OK with the yukky Synarel going down the back of your throat? All part of the bigger plan...

Nicole72- thinking of you as you head off very soon. What an anxious/exciting time...best wishes We still have to book our accommodation. It's tricky, as we want to move around ...but need to be close to CFC if things change.

Hi SummerShine, it is great to have experienced ladies on here to help us newbies Thank you

Pixel- Good luck with your decisions. You are in the right place for advice...I really appreciate hearing new ideas from others.

Enjoy the lovely Summer weather and the long weekend we have coming up
