    Hi Everyone,

Ianed - haha, sorry hun - I'e been slack with my posting! We've been pretty busy though, we hired a car the other day and drove down to the Cape of Good Hope stopping off at Simon's town and a few other cute little places on the way. Not sure if any of you SA ladies have done that drive and stopped in at the Farm house bakery (can't remember which town its in) but it was divine!!!

And the rest of the time we've either been down on the Waterfront or at Kirstendbosch - or Claremont of course!

Our donor got 14 eggs, 9 of which fertilised and I am waiting to hear back this morning for a day 3 update so fingers crossed they are all doing well.

My dh went home yesterday to pick our ds up from his grandparents so I am here all by my lonesome now. Funnily enough I think I am going to quite enjoy some time to myself. I have found a few quite good cafe's quite close on Long street so I intend to spend a bit of time in those and will check out the shops on the waterfront as well (although we have spent a fortune here on extra stuff like the intralipd infusion, clexane etc so I won't be able to buy too much!).

I did get the hotel to move me to a different room so the one that I'm in now is much more light and airy so I feel much better about that. Shame we missed each other by days Ianed - would have been good to chat over a Roobios tea! Btw - did you hear back about the betadine? Hope it was ok - I think if you just gargled it that should be fine? Such a worrying time these first few weeks though as you have such a precious little bundle on board!

    Big to everyone else!

    Jed

After reading the items in this thread, it has made me even more certain that the South African option is for us. We have had 4 soul destroying years and feel like the fertility clinic here in Gtown has wasted our time and feel like we have been misled. Only now have they tested for AMH and I feel like a freaking side show experiment. So, am shutting up shop on the failed treatments and taking pressure off myself. Now that the decision has been made, its so good NOT to feel hopeless. We have selected a donor...haven't reserved her yet. Thats on Monday, after I get the path slips for all the tests. Will be glad to have an ultrasound where it doesn't matter what the size of follicles are and to get a blood test done where right now my FSH can be a million. Its been great to experience positive feedback from the doctors at CT and the girls at the donor agency. All of your stories have given me the hope that it will happen.

    Hi Ladies

SVD - yes the IVF roller coaster can be soul destroying. It took me a while to make peace with donor eggs but once I did - it did take a lot of the pressure off.

AFM - unfortunately our day 3 results have come back with only 3 viable embryo's (3 x 8 cell) from the 9 that fertilised. Apparently the others are all 4 - 6 cells with major fragmentation. So disappointing. Now I am so anxious to see what we have left to transfer on day 5 - if I even have on blastocyst I will be over the moon! Nervous wait till Monday!

    Hi Ladies,

Laned - I don't think gargling betadine in this early stage would effect bubba in my opinion as the placenta isn't completely formed yet so baby isn't relying on your blood supply alone. Besides you didn't swallow and garggled so most of it wouldn't of been digested. So pleased your hcg levels are thriving!!! You go girl!

Jed - Thanks so much for all the info on intripilids. I was curious cause Dr. Le Roux didn't even mention it to me at all. He is very aware of my immune issues but I've informed him I'm seeing a reproductive immunologist so he know's I'm taking care of it this end. Actually I'm not sure he even believes all the treatment will make any difference anyway. Do you remember how much the intripilid cost? Do they have IVIg infusions also?
I'm keeping everything crossed your 3 embryos keep on growing and ALL make it to blastocyst. How is your lining now? Did they up the progynova? Wishing you the very best.

SVD - Welcome and well done to coming to the decision of the SA path and you are getting closer to achieving your dream of motherhood!! I know that I wouldn't be where I am today if it wasn't for these fertility forums and all the knowledge and support. It's been my therapy and allowed me to come to terms with everything in my journey. Wishng you every success, it's so exciting that you are well on your way!!

Hi to everyone else hope you are all well x

    Hey girls

Jed - wonderful fert rates. I can feel a positive coming on. Rest up and relax. It would have been wonderful to have been able to have shared a cuppa. We can always have a virtual one.

Helenmac - thanks for your kind words of encouragement. I received an email from a medicines guru, who said it would not cause any harm at all.

SVD - welcome and congrats on making the donor leap. May your upcoming journey bring you success and joy.

AFM. - really bad day today, had a bleed this morning. Went into see FS he scanned me and there is definitely one gestational sac, a yolk sac and a fetal pole. No visible heart rate. He has ordered more drugs and bed rest. Repeat beta has slowed to 14,315 so not double the 8282 taken two days ago. So don't really know what's happening to our little Springbok. To have a repeat scan in four days.

Laned - Oh I hope those levels rise up for you honey. They hadn't slowed down too much so you never know everything could be okay. Maybe the bleed just slowed it down temporarily? Have you had another bleed? I hope and pray all is okay. Keeping everything crossed for you and springbok

Jed - I feel like a bit of a tool having re read your post. Clearly my head was not in the right space yesterday when I posted. I sincerely hope those three little embies keep going strong.

I can empathize with your disappointment. When using donor eggs of much younger women it is a reasonable expectation to anticipate a good number of day 5 embryos. We had hoped that we would have had at least a few for freezing and sadly that did not occur. It is devastating and I found the staff couldn't understand why I was in tears the day of the transfer. You rest all your hopes and dreams on such a huge emotional and financial adventure.

I hope you are being kind to yourself and I am praying that you get three beautiful blastocysts.

Again sorry for my misread yesterday. I was clearly freaked out by the bleed. Xxx

Helenmac - thanks Hun, my FS has put me n an experimental drug, which has been trailed to stop threatened miscarriage and it appears that this is stopping the bleeding. He has also put me on progesterone pessaries and oral progesterone in addition to the oil injections.

He is an amazing man. I turned up at his rooms yesterday morning at 0630 and he was there, having just arrived to scan some patients for the day. He works 7 days a week and was so compassionate and understanding when I gate crashed his rooms for an impromptu appointment.

Hey Jodi (if you still post)

I had an appointment with an IVF specialist a couple of weeks ago, who explained the possibility of travelling to SA (as well as Athens and Barcelona). Thanks so much for your very informative post. I would give it serious thought (embryo donation program) if I had the $$$. Unfortunately I don't have the $$$. And it's not even very expensive!

But enough about me. BIG congratulations for your pregnancy. I hope everything is going great for you

    Hi Ladies,

Ianed - don't worry about missing my post about the day 3 results - I any of us would be distracted after the day that you had! BUT - I just want to re-assure you that the same thing happened to me when I was 5.5 weeks pregnant with my son. I had a big bleed and I thought for sure that I had lost the pregnancy and when I went in for a scan the next day there was a fetal pole and no heartbeat - but the scanner said that 5.5 weeks was probably too early for a heartbeat. Also my hcg had gone up but had not doubled and she assured me that it is only the first few days that it doubles every 48 hours and after it reaches a certain level it tapers off. Needless to say when I went back in for a scan in a few days time - there was that magical heartbeat. I sincerely hope that that is the case for you too when you go in for your scan in a couple of days. Very scary to have a bleed in such a precious pregnancy though! I hope those meds that your Dr has put you on do the trick!

Helen - no worries re the info - the clinic don't do IVIG as they said that the intralipid has superceeded it. I think from memory it cost me $300 NZD which I didn't think was too bad! Perhaps mention it to Dr Le Roux and see what he says - I don't think any of the Dr's there have 100% faith in its benefit but Dr Wiswedel said there are minimal side effects so we may as well give it a go.

Summershine and WJ - how are you going ladies? Hope you are managing to put your feet up a bit and enjoy your pregnancy's!

AFM - I am SO RELIEVED! My transfer was at 2pm today and I have spent the entire morning with my stomach in knots wondering whether any of our 3 x 8 cell embies had made it to blast! In all of the IVF cycles with my own eggs we tend to have a lot more good embies on day 3 and then still end up with no blasts on day 5 so needless to day I didn't get much sleep last night! They ended up transferring two expanding blasts - one was a 4AA, the best quality it could be, and the other was only one grade down at a 3AA. Dr Matebase (Dr Wiswedel is away) said they were both really good embryo's. The others are still chugging along and she said that we might get some day 6 blasts but to be honest I'm not really holding out much hope for anything for the freezer which I am disappointed about but so so happy that we had something decent to transfer today!

So now I will just try to fill in the time until I go home on Thurs - am getting a bit bored here by myself now I must say - WJ I remember you saying that your daily outing was to the supermarket - that is exactly how I am filling in my day too! :-) I am feeling a little sorry for myself though as I have had a cold and a cough for over a week now and its driving me a bit crazy but since I am on prednisone I don't see how my poor immune system is going to fight it off but I guess that should be the least of my worries!

Anyway - off to the supermarket :-)

    Jed
