    Default four month old weight

took my daughter for her 4 month check and the nurse has cracked up cause she has dropped off the weight chart (4.47 kg) she was born fullterm at 3.175kg but lost a lot of weight initially (to 2.6kg) She has always been small (as we are) but now they are pushing us to change to formula from breast feeding as they believe i dont have enough milk. She never seems hungry and has slept all night since about 8 weeks. Should i just wean her onto formula or keep persevering even though she isnt putting on the weight they expect? (only put on 280g last month the doctor wants a minimum of 600g/month)

i think as long as she seemss contented and full after feeds, and is gaining weight why change? from when she started gaining weight has she gained steadily? as in Xgrams per week every week or is it up and down?
my child health nurse said as long as they are gaining about 100g/week its all good. i know your dd didnt gain that much but was it an accurate weight? same scales, same clothes/bare weight, dry/wet nappy, had she just had a feed last time?

ETAi just did the maths and she has gained 1.87kg since she was 2.6kg, i dont know when that was but if it was when she was a week old, then she has gained an average of about 125g/week. also ive heard that it takes babies a lot longer to put weight back on after they have lost it.

I'd say keep preserving for now if she's happy then let her be.

This comes from a huge formula fan too. She can probs start solids a bit now to help gain weight ?

My DD was born 3.310 and at 4 months weighed 7.128. She is also fully breastfed.

ETA- I've read that you can help 'bulk' up your breastmilk by taking fish oil capsules, eating lots of avocados and nuts, pretty much lots of healthy fats.

How often do you feed bub during the day? If you are worried about her weight, i would try to add in an extra feed or two before changing to formula.

Doing breast compressions while bub feeds can help to keep her interested in feeding.

    Can you do a dreamfeed?

My daughter was around that weight at 4 months and I also felt pressure to wean. Instead I worked on ways to increase supply (motillium, fenugreek, oats, expressing, nursing more) and it helped alot. Don't let them make you feel like you have to stop BFing you are doing a great job! Is she happy, having lots of wet nappies? She could just be a small bubba!

she has been really varied in weight gain some weeks 260g and some weeks as low as 40g. I just don't want to be starving her and all the nurses seem really worried have to see the doctor next week and they are talking about taking urine samples and doing tests

She is only 4 months old! The solids that she could have at this age are not going to help increase her weight. Much better trying to up the breastfeeds.

I wouldn't change to formula unless bubs wasnt satisfied and cos u don't have any of those problems I would stay BF.

Also I wouldn't be starting solids yet, just concentrate on BFing!
