Default Over 40 and Pregnant ! finally ~

    Hi ladies,

Being over 40 and pregnant... we are a rare breed with unique concerns, worries and interests. I was wondering if anyone else would be interested in joining this thread.

After 3 years of trying, 1 year of IUI, and 1.5 years of IVF, I am finally pregnant ~! Hopefully this can be a thread where we can share the pregnancy journey and the joys of mammahood

Elijahs Mum - Was your first child IVF? or were you incredibly lucky? Good luck with your next IVF journey! Will you be staying with the same clinic and FS?

TheSudgestionator - Thank you for your well wishes ! Very sweet for you to pop in and say 'congrats!'

wannabb - Hey Wannabb, surely there must be more than just two of us (ha ha). Oh the seven week scan, a lovely milestone. Any symptoms, yet? Do let me know how you get on, on Wednesday... Hopefully some others will join us

Mammalinz- I was actually so very very lucky to fall pregnant within 3 months of going off the pill ( had been on it for literally 21 years!) I honestly changed all my health insurance cover the year before to include IVF as I was sure i would need it! I must say I'm a bit worried this time thinking I couldn't be lucky twice but I am going to think positive! Can I ask for those ladies who have done IVF how long should I try for before looking into it( I am 41 next week, we will start trying in October when DS turns 1)

Elijahs Mum - It sounds like you were blessed and so lucky ! Great ~
Re: IVF - I wouldn't hesitate - fertility for women starts a sharp decline from age 35. At 40 it plummets. I believe there is a blood test you can request to measure AMH? it kind of lets you know how many eggs you have left ... that will assist you in knowing how much time you have to play with. You dont necessarily have to rush into IVF - but i would seriously consider seeing an IVF specialist and seek informed advice on this matter. You never know, though - you may be lucky twice . Here is hoping

Congrats. Just wanted to wish you all the best. I had my son at 42 and it was a natural conception. The best advice I can offer is to not let all the risk factors that will get thrown in your direction get in the way of enjoying your pregnancy. It is possible to have a complication free pregnancy past 40. I know this now because I had one!

me rant ~ This morning I am seeing the FS regarding my NT scan results from week 12. The results were quite good - but I know my FS still wants me to have the dreaded amnio test. I am not looking forward to the appointment. Hopefully listening to the heart beat with the little one will put me somewhat at ease. Also going to enquire if I still need to be taking clexane injections daily - Being at week 17 ... I am sick of them !

Mammalinz- those numbers look great to me. Hope FS listens to you and what you want. What would you do if it came back positive. If nothing then definitely not worth having. A friend of mine is about the same gestation as you and her NT scan was good but 1 BT put her risk at 1:50. They have decided to not have amnio as would continue with pregnancy anyway.
