Default Substitute's to make a recipe low fat/sugar, gluten/dairy/soy free etc.....

Substitute's to make a recipe low fat/sugar, gluten/dairy/soy free etc.....

I thought it would be a good idea to make a thread about substitutes.

Not only to make a recipe lowfat, dairy free etc... but for the time when you run out of someting...

    I will start us of

Oil (in baking) = apple sauce

1 egg=1.5 tbls of milk + 2 tbls of custard powder

a teaspoon of vinegar in a cup of milk for soured milk (buttermilk).

coconut essence and evaporated milk for coconut milk

plain flour and 2 teaspoons of baking powder for self raising flour

3/4 cup of oil for 1 cup of melted butter

brown sugar (1 cup) - 1 cup of white sugar and 1 tablespoon of golden syrup or molasses

plain natural yoghurt for sour cream

Is blessed to have 6 wonderful kids.

I use juice and rice flour to substitute instead of normal flour and milk depending on what I'm making

Oil- use healthy alternative like flaxseed, rich in omega 3s

Egg- 1tbl chai seed ground 3tbl water, 15g is your daily intake of omega 3s

I use coconut milk in all my cooking for small amounts or almond milk. Coconut milk is actually very good for you!

Sugar I use agave or raw local honey use 25% less. Pure Maple syrup is great too.
