    Default Canberra IVF Options

Hi Canberra Ladies, Just wondering how your experiences with the CFC have been. My partner and I have been incredibly unhappy thus far, but have 5 blastocysts sitting there and are currently undergoing our first FET cycle. We're not sure of our options in terms of switching clinics, especially as we're a same sex couple using unknown donor sperm. Does anyone have any advice? Cheers, JAandAW.

    Hi jaandaw

I was with CFC for 2 IUI cycles and both DP and myself couldn't have been more disappointed with so many things. We moved to ISIS and couldn't be happier, especially since the cycle is probably cheaper than CFC, given all the hidden added costs they have.

You can switch clinics and have your frosties transferred to another clinic. I'd arrange that through the new clinic if you decide to change over.

I've heard a lot of good things about Genea also, so if you're not happy, it might be best to move clinics and remove any extra stress you don't need.

    Best of luck

    Amabel

i'm with Genea and i haven't really been able to fault them yet, they are great.

Maybe you could make an appointment with ISIS and Genea and just see what kind of feeling you get about both. I'm sure you could transfer embryo's over.

    Thanks Amabel and Clementine.

After an incredibly distressing morning with cfc, and a further written complaint, I have investigated Genea and Isis, and neither will take us as our embies were fertilised with unknown donor sperm. Both have policies against this

Not sure where this leaves us really. We're desperate to start our family, but I doubt very much we'll even have a successful transfer given the stress and anxiety my partner and I are experiencing as a direct result of the cfc's treatment.

It may be worth looking at travelling in that case?
We are also with Genea and love them.

Hi Canberra Ladies, I'm with Nicki Sides at ISIS, but unfortunately am considering getting a second opinion and would appreciate your recommendations of a really good FS.

I have poor egg quality, and after two rounds of IVF-ICSI (only one embryo created all up and it didn't stick) we've been told it's unlikely we'll have kids unless we go down the donor egg route. She's not willing to look into any other possible treatments -- actually, when we said we'd been googling to see if there was any hope for our situation she asked us to let her know if we found anything ... surely this is her job as a specialist in the field?? Plus, she wasn't really interested in acknowledging the infection I ended up with after the last EPU... bloody agony for days (morphine is my friend..)

Given it's such a big thing to kill off plans for a family I'd like a second opinion but don't want to waste my time with someone who isn't good or doesn't get results. Would appreciate some insights into other good FS, based on people's experiences. Sure, the end result may be the same in the long run, but I at least want to be confident I have explored all options.

    Thanks!

    Hi Trying to get by,

After our frustrating experience with both the clinic and obs we're using, I too have been investigating alternative obs, and have heard wonderful things re: Bronwyn Devine. Her waiting list is long, (hence why we didn't go to her first, although now we kind of regret not waiting for her as our obs is quite unpleasant but we're stuck with him for the moment), but I've heard she's kind and has a good bedside manner. She did our egg pick up, and from the five minutes awake my partner spent with her she was happy. If we end up having to do another IVF round we'll go with her.

In terms of expertise, it must be incredibly hard comparing them as each person going through fertility treatment has such different needs, but I'd be happy finding someone I felt comfortable with and made an effort to smile and acknowledge me, (and who didn't laugh off or scoff at my questions!). Going through Bronwyn Devine would mean going through the CFC though, (I think, is that how it works?), and I'm not at all happy with them, demonstrated by the three formal complaints I've made over the last 6 months, (none of which have been acknowledged let alone responded to!).

That said, I think we're pretty much stuck with finding the best of a rude lot in Canberra. I have spoken to many IVF ladies across the three ACT clinics and all have had complaints about the clinics themselves.....

It sucks hey, but what can we do? I'd love to know who you go with in the end, best of luck.

Trying to get by, I see Tween Low at Genea and i find her fantastic. She's been very caring, but also very proactive. I originally went to see her because i wanted to start metformin for my pcos. Then she tested DP's sperm and we found out it was actually he that was the issue.

She's very busy so she can be hard to get into see, but i've always found her bedside manner really great, she's very friendly. We're up to our 3rd cycle and when the first one was cancelled she saw us in her rooms straight away and went through all the blood tests with me so we understood. I've had two chemical pregnancies so we're trying clexane injections this time. I'd say that she's very open to trying new things, but she also won't give you false hope if its a long shot, she'll give it to you straight up.

As for Genea, i've been with them for about 9 months now, i find them really lovely. The nurses are really nice, they will often just call you to check on you, i've felt very supported by them. If you aren't happy with your current FS it can't hurt to make an appointment to try and see a few other so see if you get a better feeling with a different one?

    best of luck to you!

I see Dr Simone Campbell and she is AWESOME. I honestly feel like if she can't make it happen nobody can.

Genea have overall been great. I was rather annoyed that they left my news about my chemical pregnancy as a voicemail message- that really upset me. But other than that, no issues.
