have any of you watched the tv series that is based on Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth novels?

How does Game of Thrones rate against that?

I hope its better because i stopped watching the sword of truth tv series after like... 2 episodes. Apparently it got better as it went along, but the beginning was abominable.

I started watching this on Foxtel 'cause DH wanted to watch it. I was pretty reluctant, but loved it! I'm keen to read the books, but I'm hard pressed reading anything these days. They're on the 'When I'm Not So Busy' list.

From what i've seen of the game of throne tv series (from the "where is it up to now" section on the GoT HBO website) .. it seems pretty faithful to the actual books. Suprisingly so. They did well getting Boromir from LOTR and some other decent actors.
It also seems very good - unlike the poor sword of truth tv series.

I'm still not sold on George R. R Martin's books - I read over half of GoT before I got distracted and it wasnt anywhere near as captivating as the first book of say, the Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan. Perhaps i've yet to get to the really exciting part. Lets hope George knows when to stop writing and doesnt die on us like RJ did.

Isn't someone else finishing off the books?

There should be a complete moratorium on death of authors (or development of alzheimers, or other such degenerative diseases and disorders). And while that order is in, please can we have JG Ballard back to life. Thankyou kindly to whoever can make that happen.

Yeah a guy called Brandon Sanderson - he's not as good a writer (by half) but he's more action oriented .. meaning the series wont take another 5 books to finish.

Just watched the first epside of GoT. it follows the book scene for scene and a lot of the dialogue is even from the book. Its really quite good and only slightly different from how i imagined it when I was reading the book. pretty impressed, i must say.

Agreed about writers dying. I've got a few i'd love to reanimate. H.P Lovecraft would be my first choice - but I'm afraid he'd enjoy it too much.

Half way through the first book here and so far very impressed with how well they have adapted it!

Book has made the history etc a lot clearer - though it's difficult to get your head around the family trees!

Agreed!! when i watched the first episode it just seemed like it was the book word for word and scene for scene. Obviously it wasnt but it was close enough and i was really impressed.

I think they did a great job with Tyrion Lannister. He makes the series so far, for me.
Nothing like an irreverant ******* who likes to bring everyone down a few pegs, to keep a book interesting.

Mrs stark yelled at jon snow a lot more in the first book than she did in the tv show though. I hated her for that

How cute is Arya? I want a daughter just like her!!!!

I think all the characters are pretty spot on - but that may be because I watched before I read!

As it continues it deviates slightly from the book but that's to be expected I guess. Glad it's a tv series instead of a movie!!

Love Arya! I can't wait to see how she develops in the series - I have a feeling the women are going to play quite a big role.
