    Default Dummies

Just wondering what age your child didn't need a dummy anymore? Was it hard to do or easier than you thought? My dd (15 months) seems really attached to it at the moment and someone commented to me today that she is too old for a dummy?! Is this true?

I wouldn't worry about what anyone else thinks. You know your kid best and if they need it, so what!

My DD was just over 2 (I think!) when we finally took her dummy away. The main reason was that is was interfering with her speech because she would try to talk behind it.

If it's a comfort thing and they are are happy and you're happy, then stuff anyone else
When your baby is all grown up will you really regret holding them so much, or regret not holding them more?

God no! My 15 mth old DD has hers too - pretty much only in bed though. I think we'll take it off her for sleeping only when she understands what's going on - otherwise it's not worth sacrificing sleep for!!

I don't think 15 months is too old, and ultimately it is up to you (that person should probably mind their own business). I was never a fan of dummies and thought I wouldn't give one to my DD, but I did and she had it till she was 2.5. I was fairly strict on it only being for sleep time, but always took one with me when we went out in case she got upset. In the end I thought she was getting too old for it and I worried about the effect on her teeth, so we had a visit from the dummy fairy, and apart from one traumatic evening on the first night she has barely even mentioned it again. I would say do what works for you and your child.

I took my daughters off her at 5months so that she didn't get attached to it. I personally wouldn't let a 15month old have it unless it was just for sleep times. I can't see the need

Our daughter is 14 months old and she still has hers, considering taking it away soon as she too is trying to talk with it still in her mouth

My DD still has hers. She Turned 2 in April and I don't care what others think. She only has it as a comfort thing for Sleeping now though. But I do still take it in my bag when we go out just in case we really need it! We moved towns in September (600km) and then houses in December and then I had another DD in March and now we are due to move house again next weekend so I am in no rush to take it away from her but I do plan to do so within the next year.

She was off it for a few days but then saw one that we had forgetten to move and grabbed it and became really attached to it then thats when we moved etc so didn't want to stress her out too much.

I took both my childrens off them at 8 months and even when they had them up untill that point they only ever had them in bed. At 8 months they cant ask for it back and forget really easy and once it was gone they never ever stired durring the night, for us they slept perfect once the dummy went as they never woke for it. For me personaly i dont like seeing kids talking or walking with dummies in their mouth.

It really doesn't bother me if I saw even a 4 year old with one, its only a comfort thing for them, like some kids have blankies and such. My dd (11 months) will give hers up when she's ready

Just to add, she only uses it intime of comfort like bed and when she's upset
