Default Anyone had a water birth with a private ob?

Ive recently found out Im pregnant. I want a water birth (without drugs). I have vulvadynia and basically it causes a involuntary spasm of the pelvic floor muscles - over the past 2 years Ive been working with gynos, surgeons and a behvaioural medical doctor on this issue to the point where I can release these muscles.

So I want the water birth, as Ive heard it does help with the pain and then without drugs I think I could push it out more easily and control my muscles, without tearing or less tearing.

So, long winded question, has anyone had a water birth with an ob? Im wanting to go private with an Ob Ive heard wonderful things about. I did hear that Obs can be reluctant to do water births. However, this one is a go with the flow type guy.

I should really ring his receptionist and see if she knows but I thought Id get some info here first.

    Cheers!

Subscribing because I'd like to know also. We're going public this time round (at a birth centre with a bath, fingers crossed it works out), but may go private next time round (as we won't be living in the zone) and would like to know if any OBs are supportive of water births. So many seem to be pro-epidural.

We got to about 26 weeks with a private OB before we switched to public hospital & lucked into the birth centre. When we asked OB about the bath he dismissed it & said to the effect we wouldn't want to use it, it wouldn't fill in time & I'd have to get out to deliver bub. I didn't have my heart set on a water birth but his attitude toward it contributed to my decision to change care providers. Definitely make it one of your first q's and ask the midwives if possible as well.

I think it's more to do with the hospitals policy rather than your ob. I had thought the opposite but the private hospital where I had DD didn't allow them (a pity because their birthing suites are awesome and I just assumed they would have pools!) I asked my ob if I was in the bath could I just stay there, but she said no.
There is a better chance going public at a birthing centre.
