Default Communication is the most important skill for early childhood educators.

    Do you agree or disagree?

At a primary teacher I would say yes. Without effective communication skills it makes the transfer and mutual understanding of knowledge difficult.

Absolutely. Communication is the begining of everything. If you can't communicate, you can't connect. If you can't connect, there will be no mutual respect. If the Child does not feel safe or understood, they won't learn a thing.
Communication is also essential for dealing with parents, colleagues and networking with other educators.

hi kurtsmama - good on you for studying this course! I am interested in your topic, did you choose the topic? and do you just need to agree or disagree with it? or are you trying to say that there is (obviously) a whole lot of skills needed and communication is just the most important one?

Hi, no we didn't get to choose the topic.
It's a yes or no answer but obviously needs to be in a essay of 1500 words. Lucky me eh? Hee hee

You can download the essay template, it is a cover sheet where you fill the blanks and then begin writting on next page. I downloaded it week 1, can't quite remember where. If you can't find it pm me and ill email you.

I think that communication is important for EC teachers because in early childhood the family is such an incredibly important part of a childs life, and the 'first teacher', so I agree with pp who mentioned the need to be able to communicate with parents. Also to be able to recognise the different learning styles of chidlren and be able to be flexible with how to communicate concepts and the content of lessons.

    good luck with the essay

The first essay is so scary!

I'm a social work student so not studying education however, I have developed pretty good essay writing skills over time and find your essay question very interesting.

Personally, I would avoid a yes/no response to the essay question and argue that communication is an important key factor however only when balanced with complementary skills. I don't know much about the content but I assume that ethics, values, interpersonal skills and knowledge would be up there with communication.

    Good luck with it.
