    Default Kindy Vision test....help?!!

    Hi!
DS2 (4 years old) had a checkup with the school nurse today. We got a note back saying that he had some difficulty with the vision test.

At "Lea 15 line @ 3 meters" his visual acuity scored 6/12 for his left and right eye, and 6/9.5 for both.
Apparently the expected result in school setting is 6/9.5 for left, right and both.

I have noooo idea what this all means! I've tried googling but I can't make much sense of it, I plan on ringing the nurse tomorrow and asking her all about it, but I wish they would put some other blardy info in other then "he had difficulty and will re-test him later in the term"

So can anyone shed some light on this for me in the meantime?
I've never noticed him having any problems with his sight before.
    Thanks

I can't help with the deciphering of the results, but I can tell you, when we went through this with one of our sons, he scored really poorly. We had a follow up appointment with an optometrist, who determined our son did in fact need glasses.

These tests I think are not all that conclusive, as when my boys have had them done through the nurse, they have been given a board with letters and numbers on it. They have to look with one eye, at another board, and then point out the corresponding things, on their own board.

Which if your child is not so familiar with letters and numbers, they find it hard to get the correct answers.

My son who is wearing glasses struggles a lot with identifying letters and numbers, and ever test he has had with the optometrist, she has gone back to the E. Which all he has to do is tell her which way the E is going. ie, up, down, left or right. Since he is also not good at left and right, he just points with his hands. LOL

Try not to stress about the results, and perhaps, follow it up with an appointment with an optometrist.
