Default *Spin off* Did your child contract a 'vaccine preventable' disease??

Firstly id like to say this is out of pure curiousity and id appreciate honest answers. For the record I dont vaccinate my children but id like to be very clear that this is not a thread to start a debate or judge anyone in anyway!!

A recent thread got me thinking about who exactly contracts these 'vaccine preventable' diseases. Are they children who are NOT vaccinated, ARE vaccinated or simply too young to be vaccinated (according to the Australian vaccination schedual).

So my question is...Did you child (or yourself for that matter) contract one of these diseases, were they vaccinated for it and how old were they??

My DD is 2.5, had NO vaccinations and had NOT had any of these diseases (in fact has barely been sick at all). My DS is 6 months and had NO vaccinations and also has not had any diseases (he has had ONE cold since he was born!!)

Im asking BOTH pro-vaxxers and anti-vaxxers and like i say, would appreciate both sides and honest answers!

When my sister was a baby, my other sister was a toddler and I was about 7, we all got whooping cough. My youngest sister had it very seriously and was hospitalised. All of us had been vaccinated.

My DD's have both been vaxxed for whooping cough and have both been tested for it (although they didn't have it at that time...their vax status didn't have them in the clear). DD1 was 3 years and 2 months, DD2 was 16 months.

DS never had anything more than colds and one bout of Gastro where he threw up twice and had three bouts of diarrhoea. Who knows if it was rotavirus or not, he wasn't tested for it because I didn't take him to the doctor and I also didn't vaccinate him for it.

Myself personally was vaccinated for everything as a baby. I had Rubella before I could be immunised, measles when I was 8 (wasn't sick, just had the rash and had to have a week off school....that same week another class mate was off with the measles. We discovered our rashes together and she was also immunised). Not vaccinated for the chicken pox because it didn't exist and had a mild dose of that at 20 years old.

    Good thread OP!

My children are fully vaxxed and have never had a VPD.

I was partly vaxxed and was not vaccinated against whooping cough (well I was but didn't realise that it wanes over time) chickenpox or rubella and I contracted all three as an adult. The rubella when I was pregnant.

Nope. I have had CP and whooping cough and vaccinated against whooping cough but my dd didn't get it even though we bedshare and she was not vaccinated against it.

My daughter is 20 months old and all her vaccinations are up to date. She's never contracted a vaccine preventable disease.

She's never had a cold either but one has nothing to do with the other.

Myself, I'm fully vaccinated and up to date. I've never had a vaccine preventable disease. I haven't had a cold or any sort of illness in years but that has nothing to do with vaccines either.

I had the vax for measles and mumps I think, then rubella at high-school, not sure if I had the vax (or if it was available before then)

I had chicken pox when I was 2 (no vaccine 'back in the olden days, LOL), same time as my older sisters, and half the kids at their school. I don't remember it at all, my sis got a scar from scratching on her belly that got huge and looked funny when it expanded in pregnancy.

My brother got CP at 17, he was sick as a dog, covered in spots and hibernated for the week. He caught it of my nieces who both had it.

A friend who had CP when we were in primary school passed it onto her father - it was the 9th time he had it - he wasn't usually sick, or immunio-compromised, there is just something about him and CP where the immunity doesn't stick, which is rare apparently.

At a christmas party last year my twins were playing with lots of kids, in a little paddling pool with another set of twins and their older sis - they all came out with CP the following week, as did 10 other kids at the same party - some were vaxxed, some not. They were 18months and not vaxxed, my older 2 kids were there too, 3.5 and 5.5 both vaxxed and none of my kids got it.

I was fully immunised as a child and had measles at 6. I was off school for a week but I wasn't too sick.

I had chickenpox last year and was so so sick. I thought I had already had it but turns out I had no immunity to it. Had I known I would have been immunised, and it may not have been so bad.

I plan to immunise my kids.

My Brother was also fully immunised and he got mumps too plus chicken pox(although there was no vaccine for that then) terribly (i never got it even though i was living with him...in fact sharing a room)
